Title: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY POLITICS THREAD*** Post by: SUPERCOACH on August 12, 2011, 02:29:47 PM Guys, let's try to keep the political discussion out of the Quad and the normal daily thread. Some people are only here for sports talk and simply don't want to hear it. We shouldn't force them to read our political rants if they don't want to. People who are interested in politics will come to this board. If somebody only goes to the Quad and never comes in here, that probably means they aren't interested in hearing our political opinions.
Title: Re: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY POLITICS THREAD*** Post by: BAMAWV on August 12, 2011, 02:59:42 PM My opinion doesn't matter much, even to me. But if politics were splattered all over the sports boards, I could see why some would complain. But one or two posts every 500 posts isn't some imposition on the ones that are whining. I can't watch a movie on HBO without some liberal producer putting a dig in about GWB or Sarah Palin. The late night talk shows are wall to wall GOP/Conservative haters blasting conservatism. There are no conservatives even present to get equal time even a chance to offer a response. I'm banned from CNN forum because they only can exist if the operate in a vacuum. If someone exposes them they dead in the water. So naturally, when whiney liberals find themselves in the uncommon position of being in the minority, they scream UNFAIR and try to silence our voice. It is the only way they know to fight. Go to the HUffPost and see what kind of civil discourse you are afforded. Again, Catch Prothro would have a valid argument, if it was more than him just having to scan past 3 or 4 posts once every couple weeks.

Again, Catch Prothro would have a valid argument, if it was more than him just having to scan past 3 or 4 posts once every couple weeks. I assure you this has nothing to do with Catch Prothro, but I do think he had a valid point. JMHO. He just happened to be the one to say out loud what I was already thinking. A lot of people just aren't interested in hearing about politics, from either side. I think keeping the political discussions in here is a reasonable request. People who are interested can come here and debate all they want (as long as it is civil and respectful). People who are not can just skip this board. Now the tricky part will be to get intelligent posters with opposing points of view to come in here and discuss the issues of the day using logic and reason, not emotion. We need to have these types of productive discussions at the grass roots level, they are not capable of doing it in Washington. Eventually we might be able to percolate some good ideas up the food chain, and if nothing else at least set an example of how people with opposing view points CAN work together to solve a problem instead of just get into a pissing contest and start calling each other names like they do in DC. I think we have a host of people who are willing and perfectly capable of representing the conservative point of view on here, but not many who are willing to represent the other side (although certainly capable). If we could get a few people from both sides in here and keep it civil, I think we can move the conversation forward and perhaps ultimately change the direction this country is headed in. I won't promise anybody that I will agree with them on every point. But I can offer you intellectual honesty, acknowledgement of valid points, civility, and respect. And I expect only the same in return. Any takers? Title: Re: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY POLITICS THREAD*** Post by: SUPERCOACH on August 12, 2011, 03:33:45 PM Go to the HUffPost and see what kind of civil discourse you are afforded. You are exactly right about that. You won't win anyone to your side of the argument by doing the same thing from the conservative point of view. We can do better than that. JMHO. Political threads are popping up everywhere. I like them myself but they can disrupt the original thread topic. I also understand some people are feed up with the economy and present administration and want a place like a sports forum to go to get away politics. Title: Re: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY POLITICS THREAD*** Post by: pmull on August 12, 2011, 05:07:37 PM Obamacare takes a hit. An appeals court ruling strikes the requirement for health insurance.
Quote A federal appeals court panel on Friday struck down the requirement in President Barack Obama's health care overhaul package that virtually all Americans must carry health insurance or face penalties. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44121956/ns/politics-white_house/ Title: Re: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY POLITICS THREAD*** Post by: SUPERCOACH on August 12, 2011, 05:33:27 PM I like this decision. But, if it is unconstitutional for the government to require you to have health insurance, how can they require you to have car insurance? Again, I hope Obamacare dies a horrible death before it can ever take effect. I'm just asking an honest question. Maybe the answer is that requiring car insurance is also unconstitutional.

You don't have to have car insurance to protect yourself. It is required to protect the person you hit. Liability is required, collision is not. True. But the reason for universal health insurance is not to protect yourself. It is to protect the people who have to subsidize healthcare for the uninsured through out of control medical expenses that are encountered by the insured so the hospital/doctor/etc can recoup the losses they suffered when treating the uninsured. That was a mouthful, but hopefully you get the gist of it. Otherwise, there would not be a penalty or a requirement to be insured even if you don't want it. I'm not saying it is the correct solution by any means, I'm just trying to see the difference between this and requiring car insurance. Title: Re: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY POLITICS THREAD*** Post by: SUPERCOACH on August 12, 2011, 06:12:45 PM By the way, I think requiring liability insurance on your car is a good thing, regardless of the legal aspect of whether it is constitutional.

Title: Re: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY POLITICS THREAD*** Post by: SUPERCOACH on August 12, 2011, 09:37:11 PM So, after reading the 10th amendment again I think I know the answer on the insurance question. The liability insurance for your car law is a state law, which is allowed for in the Constitution under the 10th amendment. The health insurance law is a federal law, which is prohibited by that same 10th amendment.
Interesting... :-\ Title: Re: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY POLITICS THREAD*** Post by: BAMAWV on August 12, 2011, 09:54:58 PM So, after reading the 10th amendment again I think I know the answer on the insurance question. The liability insurance for your car law is a state law, which is allowed for in the Constitution under the 10th amendment. The health insurance law is a federal law, which is prohibited by that same 10th amendment. Being a simple man I find it easier to understand their reasoning in simple terms. You HAVE to have insurance in both cases for the greater good of the citizenry as a whole. But the hole in both arguments is that while it is inevitable that you will someday incur hospital/healtcare bills, you do not HAVE to own a car.Interesting... :-\ What I've found laughable is the theory that everyone having health insurance will reduce the rates of all. Forget the fact that our tax dollars will pay the "premiums" for 50% of the population, the lion's share of the cost will be endured or absorbed by the providers (doctors, pharm. cos, hospitals) who in turn will start billing the crapout of the best insured among us. When they made car insurance mandatory the argument was that everyone would benefit by reduced rates. Bwaaahahaha. Anyway, the Interstate Commerce Clause has been misused to allow the feds to reach into all kinds of state issues, from gun control to healthcare. [note: I read back over my post and I know I seem to ramble from issue to issue, but the power grab is the key and it'll take BHO out of office to change it since they control the Justice Dept.] Title: Re: ***CRIMSON RED DAILY POLITICS THREAD*** Post by: BAMAWV on August 12, 2011, 10:18:50 PM FOX is replaying last night's debate if anyone missed it.
