Title: Notre Dame Football-The Media Hype Kicks in to Full Gear
Post by: Marshal Dillon on September 06, 2015, 07:15:18 PM
After 1 game, against subpar talent, the media is crowning Notre Dame as a serious NC contender.

Quote
THE BIG PICTURE: The case for Notre Dame as a College Football Playoff contender has its first piece of evidence. The Irish didn’t merely beat Texas; they embarrassed the Longhorns. In doing so, Notre Dame showcased a level of sideline-to-sideline athleticism — on both sides of the ball — that supports the theory that suggests Coach Brian Kelly has successfully recruited and developed the sort of talent needed to compete for the national championship.

If they take Notre Dame they better not give me any bull about SEC #2 not being the conference champion.

Kelly has had some very good recruiting years and like it or not, this team could contend. Most pundits, and Kelly, are saying this team is the best team Kelly has fielded. Don't sell them short.

Prove it on the field first, then go from there. This is pure media love, nothing else. They were 8-5 last year & 9-4 before that. They were 11th in recruiting 2015, 11th in 2014, 3rd 2013, 20th 2012. Their recruiting is definitely not Top 5. Like I said, prove to me how good you are.

The one thing that is carry ND is the QB. That Malik guy was going all over the field. He didn't meet a defense that would hit him head on like ours. If you watch ND replay they was a lot of arm tackling and diving at their feet here and there. RTR!

Yes, this is probably the best Irish team Kelly has fielded.  One difference?  They got rid of Golson and found a decent QB.

Their schedule is much tougher than any team in the Big10 and teams in most other conferences.  They play USC, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Stanford, Pitt, Temple (!), Texas, Virginia, Navy, UMass, and Wake Forest.  Not an SEC schedule, but not filled with cupcakes like Ohio State or Baylor.  So I think an undefeated ND team should make the playoffs.

ND does get a lot of hype.  They have a huge fan base and sportswriters abound desperate for the Irish to be relevant again.  Whether they are relevant this year remains to be seen.  But what I have seen, the Irish appeared to be a good team, and I'll be watching.

I'm not saying they are not good, even though I think their schedule will cause them at least 2 losses. What irks me is the constant love affair of the media for a program that hasn't done a lot in the last 10-15 years, besides getting crushed by Bama in 2012.

Get used to it.  ND has always gotten the media love at the beginning of the season even when they were a horrible team.  Not gonna change anytime soon...

They have two significant tests on their schedule. And maybe away losses to Stanford or Clemson might be forgivable. But more than one loss with this schedule should knock them out of the top four.

LOL! Good point, it's just so infuriating that the media is so in love with ND & the media don't care if everyone knows it.

I get the feeling that Georgia Tech and their option will give Notre Dame all they want and burst their little bubble.

You want to know something, ND has been getting all the Media attention since the 1960's when Lindsey Nelson was the broadcaster for them. He got the a lot of attention too. RTR!

Is Texas that bad or is ND that good?  ??? too early to tell IMO.

If ND is even decent they will be the media darling.

Wow. So many memories come flooding back from the past. Mel Allen, Keith Jackson, Lindsey Nelson, Forney, Harry Carey, Jack Buck, Curt Gowdy, & more. All were a special breed.
