"I feel like I'm contributing," Jones said. "Now, am I putting up numbers like I did in the late '90s and early 2000s?

#+ When he's healthy, there aren't many better.

He's feeling pretty chipper after that game-winning home run this week.  Yep, he's still needed, especially in the clubhouse.

I just don't see us needing an injury-plagued 40 year old third baseman. We need to be looking to the future at 3b, not to the past.

I agree, the clubhouse has a lot to do with teams playing for and winning championships.

I hear what you're saying MD, but Chipper is looked up to by those young guys and is still a leader. Him staying healthy is a long shot, but as long as he is, I say play him.

My concern is he makes $12-$14 mil a year, money we could use to keep or pursue other players. Plus, third base is where you want one of your power hitters to be and we have talent in the minors.

Chipper is a proven star when healthy. Nobody is proven in the minors. They all have promise and maybe have done well the short time there, but you really don't know what they will do in the majors. If someone in the minors is that good, they'll find a pacle for him or move Chipper to the outfield to make room.

Chipper is too old to move to the outfield at age 40. All that running and chasing flies is too much. That's why you might see a 40 year old shortstop or third baseman in the majors, but not an outfielder. We have to think long term, Chipper might play one or two more years, that's time we could have a trade, sign a free agent or develop someone to play there. I would love to see Chipper have an injury-free year and play good, bu we need someone for the future.
