I understand the need to protect brains, but that call was hardly against 'a defenseless player'.  The guy was chasing the ball carrier on a punt, and he saw the blockers coming.

How about this, helmet-to-helmet:

Or this:

Or the late hit on Coker when the lineman hit him helmet-to-facemask.

I appreciate the desire to protect players, but what frustrates me about targeting is that it's so subjective and the penalty is so severe.  Even though Hamilton is not a key player, the combination of losing the yardage and the ejection seemed to spark the momentum change.  Not to mention you've got a guy out there playing hard, with no apparent intention to harm another player, who has to watch one of the biggest games of the season from the locker room instead of being with his team.  There has to be a better way to protect the players than subjective calls that can really a swing a game if a star player is ejected.

Good call, Phil. Plus, it has to be called both ways. A&M got away with murder Saturday.

This Facebook video has several missed calls, and it's sort of funny.  You might have to be logged on to see it.

Well I have come to believe the SEC is going to let Ref's get away with anything no matter what it is as long as it is against us. JMHPO! RTR!
