Also, a couple Krystal employees where shot last night in Decatur. Terrible thing to end someone's life for a little money. Title: Re: Police officer shot in Anniston Post by: 2Stater on August 24, 2011, 02:24:26 PM  Also, a couple Krystal employees where shot last night in Decatur. Terrible thing to end someone's life for a little money. Pray for them all. Law enforcement officers rarely make the news unless there is a complaint or charge against them, or in this case, when one is shot or killed. I agree with pmull that most don't garner enough respect. Yes there are those who try to operate outside of policy, but for the most part officers do a great job and DO lay their life on the line every day. An officer never really fully knows what he is getting into when engaged with other people. Even something seemingly harmless as a traffic stop. They can never let their guard down. God bless 'em. That is a real tragedy about those Krystal employees. Gave their lives working a min. wage job. When I was a convenience store mgr. in Ft. Pierce, Fl. many years ago, the 7-11 around the corner from my store was robbed at gunpoint. An elderly lady was working behind the counter. After she gave him the money from the register, he turned and walked to the door. She had a shotgun under the counter, pulled it out and literally blew his head off. She was a local hero. It's going to take more actions like hers to deter these friggin low-life pieces of scum from committing crimes in convience stores, pizza places etc. God bless the Krystal employees and families' God bless the little old lady in Ft. Pierce. Title: Re: Police officer shot in Anniston Post by: N.AL-Tider on August 24, 2011, 02:32:15 PM  for Officer Justin Sollohub.

Title: Re: Police officer shot in Anniston Post by: ssmith general on August 24, 2011, 09:49:45 PM Quote ANNISTON, Alabama -- Authorities say an Anniston police officer is in critical condition after being shot in the head while on patrol, and police arrested a man after an hours-long search. Chief Layton McGrady says 27-year-old officer Justin Sollohub stopped to talk to two young men Wednesday morning. The men ran, and the officer chased them on foot. McGrady says Sollohub was shot while rounding the side of a house. He was taken by helicopter to a Birmingham hospital, where he was in surgery. Anniston Mayor Gene Robinson tells WBMA-TV that the officer is on life support. Local, state and federal officers converged on the area with tracking dogs and helicopters. Police tell The Anniston Star they arrested a 30-year-old Anniston man in connection with the shooting, but released few details about his capture. http://blog.al.com/wire/2011/08/suspect_arrested_in_anniston_p.html Title: Re: Police officer shot in Anniston Post by: Marshal Dillon on August 24, 2011, 10:21:59 PM Life can be strange sometimes. Decatur is my hometown and I lived in Oxford, Al for 13 years, which abuts Anniston. Anniston is one mean town with lots of crime. All the decent folks move to either Jacksonville or Oxford.

Anniston Mayor Gene Robinson tells our news partner WBMA-TV in Birmingham that Officer Justin Sollohub is brain dead and on life support following the incident. According to WBMA, Robinson says Sollohub is an organ donor and is being kept alive so that he "may continue to serve citizens even after he is gone." Robinson also said his heart is with Sollohub's family. The 27 year old Sollohub was shot around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday while chasing a pair of suspects from a traffic stop. It's unclear why the suspects were stopped. What is known is that Officer Sollohub radioed back to the dispatcher that he'd begun a foot pursuit with the suspects. Minutes later, a second officer who came to assist radioed back "Officer Down". Investigators believe Sollohub chased the man through a neighborhood, and was shot in the head while rounding the corner of a home. After a manhunt lasting several hours, a suspect was finally located and arrested. He's been identified as 24 year old Joshua Russell. He's been charged with Attempted Murder, a charge that's sadly likely to be updated if Mayor Robinson's information is correct. A search of court records shows that Russell has five felony convictions over the past five years, mostly involving drugs. Jeniffer Morris tells The Anniston Star that her son, Officer Justin Sollohub, had been kept alive by machines after the shooting so that his organs can be donated to others. Morris said her son loved being an officer. She says the 27-year-old Sollohub didn't want to sit in an office. Sollohub was shot in the head during a foot case on Wednesday. Authorities say 25-year-old Joshua Eugene Russell was being held in the shooting, with bond set at $420,000. Authorities say he has now been charged with capital murder since Sollohub died. Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson says Russell was transferred to nearby Etowah County to make sure he is treated fairly.
