I have a problem with the flip flopping sides when somebody makes a good play. It sounds like our plays are minor and if auburn makes a play they are so much better than us big time. RTR!

Well I'll say this again even though it sounds self serving.  I worked at ABC-TV in NYC for several years during the heyday of Roone Arledge and ABC Sports.   I knew many of the producers and execs in the Sports dept.  Gotta tell you, they would never have put up with the nonsense we hear from Verne and Gary.  I cannot understand why CBS keeps these guys on their flagship telecast.

Howard Cosell was taken off Monday Night Football.  Warner Wolf was taken of baseball.  Big "names" are not 'immune' and can be replaced.

I hate listening to Verne and Gary.  Here's MY poll:  (choose as many as apply)

1.  They make way too many mistakes
2.  They beat a horse well past death
3.  They bring up past years and results repetitively
4.  They interrupt the flow of the game by continuing to talk about a penalty that wasn't called
5.   Verne no longer has any original thought; he reads off his script/storyline to the point of total boredom, and insists on interjecting it even when not applicable
6.  Gary just talks too much

I like Verne & Gary. Verne is a good old guy with a great sense of humor & he enjoys having fun at work. Danielson is very observant & astute about the game, along with a good sense of humor. He played QB in the NFL 13 years so he knows the game. By the way, did you catch Danielson's comment during the Miss. State game? He was joking about how they have been part of 5 Tide games this year & he said they, the producers, & crew called CBS the Crimson Broadcasting System. I love it.

I tried to watch the MSU game with the sound off, and Crimson Sports network (Eli, radio), but the time delay between the video and radio broadcast was too much.

I truly despise  these two boobs..I'll be glad when the CBS contract is up.

I guess I can handle Verne and Gary as well as I can handle some of these young ones that they have on there now. They are funny at times and I agree they go a little overboard at times but again I can tolerate a little honest ignorance with their presentation better than I can an overzealous commentator that knows it all and is never wrong. One of my favorites was Dizzy Dean in baseball, he sounded dumb as a rock with his commentating but he always had you laughing with his presentation. Somewhat like Verne and Gary.

Do you remember him saying, "he slud into 3rd base" & he loved to say ain't. English teachers would write him and CBS complaining. He would say he wasn't smart, just a great pitcher.

Yep. They mentioned that and several times that Mullen was like 0-7 against Bama, and had scored a high of only 20 points in those losses. In other words, MSU & Mullen were owned by Saban.

My biggest issues are:
1) They constantly seem lost. We can see something as plain as day on the TV (or computer monitor in my case), and they have no clue what happened.  I've never seen/heard this from other commentators.
2) As someone else mentioned, they get hung up on something and just won't let it go. Whether it's a missed penalty or Gary's theme for the game (in LSU game he said "little things" after almost every play of the game), it just gets tiresome.

I've never really thought they were biased, just clueless at times and mostly plain annoying.  I don't think anyone likes them, I'm not sure why CBS keeps them around.

Like it or not, Gary and Verne are the tops for CBS, and CBS has the contract with the SEC.  They know SEC sports, and work to prepare for the games by visiting coaches and practices leading up to the game.  And they don't confuse NCAA rules with NFL rules or constantly compare the two (like Musberger, et al.).

I laugh at Verne's missteps on names of players, especially when he calls them by a name 2 decades past!  LOL

If complaints are the focus herein, let me add that the sidelines issues pizz me off.  G & V will spot someone on the sidelines, like Peyton or Bo, and spend the next 15 minutes telling stories about them, while the game is ongoing.  Or they'll get off on some issue at another school and chat about that, then look up and say, "Oh, while we were chatting Henry ran for a 66-yard touchdown."

 >:(

Not always.  Know you're just funning, but the Tennessee game was very competitive, and they spent 15 minutes talking about Peyton.  None of it concerned the game they were announcing.

I agree, my complaints aren't of bias but irrelevance and repetition.

It's stuff like this that I can't stand.  The endless prattle overshadows Gary's sometimes decent analysis or Verne's endearing incompetence.

I admit, I'd rather watch them than the other options.  The worst to me is that female announcer, who seems to yell when announcing, especially when something exciting occurs.

Musberger is only entertaining when checking out babes in the stands.  There's nobody else!

Espn's primetime crews, like Fowler and Herbstreit, show how it's supposed to be done.

I think some folks like Nessler and Blackledge as well.

Seems like those guys are always doing games at the same time we are playing on CBS, or maybe during another SEC game of interest. Don't get to hear them much, but both sets of guys are good.

CBS probably doesn't care much who the announcers are; Bama fans are going to watch regardless.

True, these are good.  No fan of Herbie, but he's a talent nonetheless.  These crews spend less time with the teams before the games, but they do a better job announcing.

Every fan base in the SEC think they are pro Alabama except Alabama. I actually like them but as 2Stater said the length of the time outs on CBS are ridiculous. CBS games last nearly 4 hours. They are not the best play-by-play/color team but they are far from the worst.
