Title: One Last Smile with the Snake Post by: bama57 on December 10, 2015, 11:58:05 AM Quote Kenny Stabler learned he had colon cancer in February. He was in Phoenix, Arizona, where he had been renting a home since the fall of 2014 so he could watch his two grandsons play football for Chaparral High School. One is a receiver. One is a defensive back. Stabler called them his “grandsnakes.” In January, he had called Kim Bush, his partner for the last 16 years of his life, and told her of a consistent pain in his stomach. http://www.sbnation.com/2015/12/9/9854578/one-last-smile-with-the-snakeShe now suspects it had bothered him for months. Bush, who works in Mississippi, told Stabler to go to the doctor, something he avoided. She had made him numerous doctors’ appointments through the years. “And he would always cancel them,” Bush said, not so much with sadness, but with the annoyed tone women can take when discussing stubborn men in their lives. This time, Stabler went to the doctor. Scans were done. Bush flew to Arizona to go with him to get the results. It was cancer, Stage 4. Stabler was told he had two years. It's also a good warning to checkout medical problems early.

My favorite play of his was when he threw threw the ball out of bounds to stop the clock on 4th down. That was Snake at his best.

Kenny found a comfortable niche in the Gulf Shores area. He was bigger than life back in those 1970s years, and the toast of everyone. Here he is (pic) in the End Zone, his watering hole and club. My best memories of him before that were SEC games of the 1960s, especially those against Tennessee and Awbarn. He picked them apart, and had fun doing it! :worship: :worship: Title: Re: One Last Smile with the Snake Post by: 2Stater on December 11, 2015, 07:28:39 AM I know I've posted it before, but the very first college game I ever attended was the Ole Miss-Alabama game in 1967. Snake was the QB and Bama beat Ole Miss 21-7. I have fond memories, as well.
