Title: Bad News for Florida Football

Wow. Never saw this coming.

Quarterback Will Grier will transfer from Florida, the school announced Saturday.

"Will came to me about exploring his options to transfer. We will support him and help him in anyway we can," coach Jim McElwain said in a statement. "This has been very difficult on him and obviously he is looking for a fresh start. We will always be there for him as will all Gators."

You have to wonder what is going on there.  It's not a question of starting next year.   ???

I think he's mad at UF for not fighting harder to save him from the suspension.

That, or maybe someone at Florida was involved in supplying the substances.  Perhaps his parents are pulling him.

Excellent point. Hanging with a bad crowd or maybe his supplier was at UF.

More bad news for UF, again.

An eventful day in Gainesville has added another layer.

A few hours after it was reported that suspended former starting quarterback Will Grier is seeking a transfer, the Gainesville Sun is reporting that starting defensive end Alex McCalister has been dismissed from the football program. The only reason given by the Sun was an unspecified violation of team rules.

Are Florida, A&M, & Texas in competition for most dysfunctional football program?

Wow, Coach Mac must be thinking if he made a good decision going to Florida. Florida has had some major disciplinary problems for a long time now.

The entire SEC East is in disarray. UGA, USCe, Mizzou will have new coaches next year and none are proven winners. Vandy and UK did not make it to a bowl game and their coaches are on the hot seat. Coach Mac and Butch Jones at UT could become the dominate East depending on how things go for Kirby Smart at UGA. I think Coach Mac is in a very good place at the right time to re-build the UF program.

Coach Mac has a tough road ahead of him -- he has no QB.  Maybe he should open tryouts to the student body.   :lol2:

I think TN wins the SEC East next year.  But Kirby has a lot of talent to work with at UGA, he's in a better position than Coach Mac.

To me, this says that the problems at FL run deeper and are more pervasive than it initially appeared. Coach Mac will get this cleaned up, but after this year's surprising run to the SECCG, he will likely take a step back for a couple of years.

He may need to scramble and snatch up a JUCO QB like OM did with Chad Kelly. We're doing allot of speculating, but I think Mac will get a handle on it.

Perfect description of the East. I would add USC to the list. I expect bad years for Missouri, USC, Vandy, & UK. Seasons like 4-8 to 6-6 for them. I think UF may drop some, maybe 8-4 or 9-3 unless the QB comes around. I think there could be some major struggles with UGA the first year or two while Kirby tries to get the program going in a solid direction. He's a new coach, not guaranteed to be successful. UT looks like a paragon of stability with all these other programs in flux. Overall, I agree that UF & UT are in the drivers seat in the East.

Coach Mac opens up about the Grier transfer.

When asked about Grier having any transfer restrictions, McElwain said, “I’m not real fired up about seeing him in the SEC, but we signed (off on) a bunch … every school that he brought up. We’re here to support him.

“I just, we anticipated him being here. Obviously the choice was made to go somewhere else.”

Where Grier will end up remains to be seen. He still has six games to serve on his year-long suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, which would follow him to any NCAA institution (FBS or FCS) he transfers to.

If he still has to serve the suspension, why leave, unless it's to a JUCO or NAIA school?

I just don't understand this.
