Title: Alabama vs Mississippi State in Basketball Tonight
Post by: Marshal Dillon on February 02, 2016, 11:33:50 AM
We play @ MSU on the SEC Network @ 8 pm tonight. MSU has a really bad team but I'm not taking anything for granted. Plus, I have seem improvement during the year. They lost by 1 point to a very good A&M team & beat Ole Miss.

Forgot to mention that Ben Howland is coach of MSU. Interesting nugget:

Quote
In his 10 years with the Bruins, he had a .685 winning percentage, went to three consecutive Final Fours, and won four Pac-12 conference titles.

We match up better on defensive stats. We allow 67 pts (75th) to States 74 (240th).

I think we have the better team but winning on the road is never easy. Starkville has not been kind to us over the years either.

I think if we hit at least 72-75% of our FT's & rebound well, we can win.

I think I saw Coleman but not Hale. Foot problems, again.

Tide has played 8 guys so far. Tempo very upbeat for both teams. Tide 22-17.

3 & 4 Tide players hitting the boards at one time. I like it! 26-18. Brandon Austin, true freshman, looking good.

Well I finally turn on the game and immediately lose DTV signal.  I guess I can rewind and watch earlier in the game.  At least Bama is leading.

It's odd to see Bama wearing white as a visiting team.

I guess MSSt wanted a blackout?   ???

Storms have arrived, but no tornado sirens yet.

Looks like:

LSU beats Auburn

And Bama leading by 5

We are 4/5 FT, have only 6 personal fouls, & 18 rebounds. Solid 1st half. Obasohan 16 points, Taylor & Hall have 4 rebounds each, & 6'5" freshman guard Brandon Austin has 4 points & 3 rebounds.

Wow, seeing GA beat USCe and Tenn. beat Kentucky really hurt our league. Neither Kentucky or USCe will be ranked I guess that only leaves TA&M. RTR!

Tide has worst turnover to assists rate in SEC. Taylor getting offensive under basket, 2 straight baskets. Ware for MSU gets 3rd foul & goes to bench. He has 18 points so this is good news. 42-40 timeout.

Tide doing well on the foul front. Only 8 fouls, keeping our guys on the court.

Too many.

Kessens injures his knee, laying on the floor, refs wait till MSSt scores to blow whistle.

Tide has 10 3's. Kessens injured when MSU player falls across his left knee. Hale, Kessens, Ingram out. Wow.

We call our last timeout to set up a play with :25 left in game. Obasohan gets the ball then charges toward the basket with 3 defenders there & fouls one of them. That's the best we can do on a last shot play, no passing, no one breaking for the basket, nothing?

MSSt going for the "foul Bama" strategy in OT.

Title: Re: Alabama vs Mississippi State in Basketball Tonight

Coleman hits both FTs.  Bama back up by 3.

MSSt scores 2.   ???

Bama up by 1 with the basketball and 1.7 seconds left.

Norris gets fouled.  Hits first FT.  Misses the second FT.

MSSt runs out of time, don't get off a shot.

Sloppy game, lots of turnovers, but Bama gets a road win.

Bama 82  MSSt 80  FINAL

Great win on road overcoming a huge number of turnovers, a player injury, & poor FT shooting.

The beat and battered Tide gutted out this win. It was a much needed road win. The team fought hard and never quit.

I do not recall a Bama team this beat up and injured. Ingram out for the year. Hale missed another game with a foot he re-injured against USCe. We do not know how many, if any, more games he will miss. Coleman playing on one foot due to a season long turf toe injury that is not expected to heal until after the season. Kessens went down with a knee injury last night. We can only hope it is not serious. We had a freshman walk on playing meaningful minutes last night. Freshman Brandon Austin played 18 minutes.

Missouri comes to T-Town on Saturday.

The biggest event of the day, dwarfing National Signing Day like a mountain, it's:

THE GOOD

Tide came from behind to win on the road
7 Tide players had 4 or more rebounds
Obasohan 25 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists
4 Tide players scored in double figures
Tide scored 15 points in OT
Tide shot 46.6%
Rebounds: Tide 43  MSU 41
Personal fouls: Tide 16  MSU 25
FT's: Tide 17/27  MSU 11/16  Six point difference for Tide
3 pointers: 11/29  38%
Coleman 15 points, 3/5 3 pointers, 4/4 FT's

THE BAD

Three players played 35 minutes or more (Obasohan 43)
FT Shooting:  Tide 63%

AND THE UGLY

20 Turnovers
Points in paint: Tide 30  MSU 50
Points off turnovers: Tide 15  MSU 23
Fast break points: Tide 2  MSU 10

All I have to say is if the refs from the SC game were doing this game, I am not sure any of the teams would have anyone left on the floor.
