Title: "Ball-hawking Crimson Tide smothers Kent State"
Post by: Chechem on September 04, 2011, 07:07:26 AM
Quote
The only touchdown surrendered in the 48-7 beating of Kent State came after an interception left the Tide with just three yards to defend. Besides that, the unit was as good as it’s been under coach Nick Saban.

The 90 total yards allowed was the second fewest the Tide had allowed in the past five seasons. Only FCS Chattanooga gained fewer (84) in 2009.

90 yards. That is not much. That is like running from home plate to third base.

You're still de-toxing I see.  Better have more coffee; and no driving for 6 hours.

He's correct, running it the "legal" direction.  90ft/30yds between each base.  For some reason running a 100yd sprint in football practice and trying to leg out a triple never seemed that similar.  I guess cause one was a conditioning drill (i.e. work).

Hmm.  ???  Seems you're both right.  More de-tox for me.
No more using baseball metaphors for football analogies.

I used the baseball analogy because during the 1992 season. A sports writer showed each week how far the defense allowed the other teams offense to advance towards home plate on a MLB baseball diamond. I didn't say anything about hitting a triple.

I'm fighting an urge to edit.

Guess, at my age, I'm smart enough to realize that "running from home plate to third base" is accomplished quickest by the shortest route.  That's what occurred to me.  I wasn't thinking of hitting a baseball and running the "legal" way.

But thanks for the clarification.
