Title: NCAA tournament Team Selection Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 12, 2016, 12:05:05 PM As usual at this time, BB "analysts", coaches, sports talkers are urging for certain teams to be selected for the Tourney. This time the BS is getting really deep. I will give some examples:
Quote "I think that at the end of the day, we're a team that not only can be in the NCAA Tournament, but win games in the NCAA Tournament," Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall said after his Shockers were eliminated from the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament last weekend. Wichita State was one of several regular-season champions from mid-major conferences that didn't win league tournaments to lock up automatic NCAA bids. Monmouth (27-7) and St. Mary's (27-5) are in similar situations. "We have one of the top-five records in the country. The only thing we didn't do was beat Gonzaga three times. We beat them twice," St. Mary's coach Randy Bennett said after losing the West Coast Conference final to Gonzaga. So, let's do what I always enjoy doing, check the facts. Here is the record and strength-of-schedule of some of these "deserving" teams. Wichita St. 23-8 SOS 120 St. Mary's 26-5 SOS 167 Monmouth 27-7 SOS 206 George Washington 23-10 SOS 121 UAB 25-6 SOS 298 Michigan St. 27-5 SOS 85 (I don't get this one & added it because it adds to the confusion by their SOS St. Bonaventure 22-8 SOS 82 So, if St. Mary's, Wichita St. or Monmouth make the Tourney, we should immediately schedule the likes of Cornell, Northern Arizona, Canisius, UCF, Rider, Drake, Evansville, & Fairfield. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2016/03/12/campaigning-coaches-stump-for-their-teams-to-make-tournament/81684462/ :popcorn2: Title: Re: NCAA tournament Team Selection Post by: 2Stater on March 12, 2016, 01:04:30 PM As usual at this time, BB "analysts", coaches, sports talkers are urging for certain teams to be selected for the Tourney. I don't even like the idea of automatic bids for the lesser conferences. They usually get eliminated quickly, with some exceptions, and it keeps more deserving teams out. As far as Michigan State goes, I think either they or Kansas will win it all. Title: Re: NCAA tournament Team Selection Post by: cbbama99 on March 12, 2016, 01:06:01 PM I bet dollars to doughnuts that Monmouth gets in. That whole season-long story about their idiotic bench will be enough for the committee to say, "Hey, that's what we need! More excitement like that!" :eyeroll: :eyeroll:

Title: Re: NCAA tournament Team Selection Post by: pmull on March 13, 2016, 11:34:45 AM I think the RPI & BPI are more important than SOS. They both take SOS into account. Strictly judging teams by SOS is unfair to non power conference teams.
Team RPI BPI SOS Wichita State 51 24 119 St Mary's 41 31 164 Monmouth 55 86 209 G. Washington 65 60 121 UAB 79 113 296 St Bony 30 74 87 So Carolina 56 38 38 Alabama 71 84 28 Florida 52 34 11 I think: In: Wichita State St Mary's St Bony So Carolina (in over Florida because of much better conf and overall record) Out: Monmouth G. Washington UAB Alabama Florida Title: Re: NCAA tournament Team Selection Post by: N.AL-Tider on March 13, 2016, 12:32:17 PM I think the RPI & BPI are more important than SOS. Well look at the itty bitty colleges that got in because they won a conference that there is no way they could beat FLA or us. RTR!

Title: Re: NCAA tournament Team Selection Post by: ricky023 on March 13, 2016, 06:14:15 PM Syracuse got in after losing to ST. Johns. Those itty bitty folks get in because they don't play anybody. So, if we play a 60 rank SOS and win all the games we can get in the tourney. RTR!
