Title: Is LSU Faking Injuries?
Post by: Jamos on September 05, 2011, 07:57:02 PM
As I watched the game the other night I noticed that when LSU players would start to get gassed, someone would go down with an injury, go out of the game for one play and come right back in. They did the same thing to Tennessee last year at the end of that game and they also did the same in the Bama game. They may do it in every game, I just haven't been paying that close attention to it.

Just wondering if anyone else had ever noticed it.

Yes, they do it all the time.  Somewhere I saw a comment that someone asked Miles about it and he said he'd never told his players to fake an injury.  I'll see if I can find it again.

I saw it, but I thought they were really hurt.  Didn't seem to be just to stop the Oregon momentum/speed.  Just poor conditioning it seemed.

It seems like I remember seeing that too.

I think either Cal or UCLA was accused of faking injuries against Oregon last year to slow down the pace to the game. I wouldn't be surprised if Les did it on purpose. Actually pretty smart for a grass eater.

The last time they played us at TTown it was ridiculas at the number of tiimes that they stopped the clock for an injury to rest, especially if we were about to score.

That is what I remember. 2 years ago at BDS. Many timesouts for player down.

Here's the article about a Cal coach being suspended for telling a player to fake an injury...   http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/Cal-assistant-football-coach-suspended-for-telling-player-to-fake-an-injury-33484140

The announcers at the LSU/Oregon game brought that issue up, but said Les Miles stated that he had never faked an injury. Unfortunately, he doesn't play, what about his players, do they fake it?

He got caught in a lie at the game's beginning (about running out to the wrong side).

It not only gives them a breather but they save their timeouts. That's how they beat Tennessee last year down there.

I found someone talking about it on Wooly shortly after TS was restructured. I check in on both regularly, but the maturity here seems to fit my style better. I started on TS somewhere during the coaching search.

I don't remember "Bandit" on TS.  Was that your name there?
BTW, welcome.

I remember the game at BDS two years ago.  Late in the game it seemed like somebody went down every other play.  Of course they didn't stay out very long.

I have a picture saved showing three of their players down in the end zone.  Will look for it tomorrow.

MSBAMAFAN, I think. I think Bandit was taken already and I chose that. I only posted a few times. Mostly read coaching search updates and after that used it to stay up to date on recruiting. I kind of miss that pacle, but like it here too.

The most famous example was way back in the 1950s when Notre Dame players trying to score would fall down "injured" to stop the clock at the end of a half if they were out of timeouts. Sometimes four or five at once. The NCAA then threatened anybody doing this, and we've had no real problems since. Or since LSU?

Thanks, OT.  Didn't know that.

Maybe it's just me, but I've become accustomed to seeing LSU players sprawled on the field.  They always seem to be face down and stretched out.  They don't act like soccer players and grab a knee or ankle; they just flop to the ground and lie there.  Maybe I've been imprinted by the "make their azzes quit" photo, but to me, that's LSU.

Maybe Les is coaching that position.  Either way, it's embarrassing to have so may of your players sprawled on the field during the game.  They don't look like winners, even if it stops the clock.  They look like LOSERS.

I think it's something the SEC and NCAA should look at, it happens too often at LSU. Miles and the coaches may not instruct the players to do this but I can promise you they planted the seed in their heads on how to do it and get away with it.

It is a form of cheating and I have no idea of how it could be stopped.

When they meet Bama's defense, they may be injured for real...unfortunately.

Exactly, it is always the same position -- face down.  Maybe that is so the refs cannot see them smiling.

Maybe we could take action on this.  We should start keeping records of these occurrences, including game situation (time, yard line, down and distance, momentum, # timeouts LSU has remaining, etc), number of plays the "hurt" player remains on the sideline, etc.

When we have sufficient evidence, we submit the report to the conference office.  Better yet maybe we can get someone in the AD to submit it to the conference.

It'll be a good job for the new Asst. AD.
