Title: The Masters 2016
Post by: 2Stater on April 04, 2016, 05:47:46 PM
I do the Golf Channel Fantasy Golf. I theoretically make the money the golfers that I pick, make. You pick one golfer from Group A, one from Group B, one from C and one from D. If you want to play, even if only for the Masters, this is the link.

http://fantasy.golfchannel.com/TeamPerformance/TeamPerformance

You'll need to create an account and then join the group. Group name is Crimson Red and the password is RollTide. It will ask you for your team name. You can put anything you want there. My team name is Bushwackers. Then, make your picks.

These are my picks.

Who ya got this week?  Good luck!

I'm sorry, Preacher, I missed your earlier post. I would have been glad to help you. Of course, it would have been just you and me going against each other. I just checked the group and it appears nobody else signed up.  :lol2:

Yeah, he's +4 after 16. Not a great start, but I expect scores to be worse by day's end with the increase in the winds.

Wind? What wind?  :lol2:

Spieth opens up with a bogey free round of -6. Bubba and Day still on the front 9 and both at -3. Paul Casey is in at -4, good for 2nd place, so far.

Correction; Casey finished at -3.

Don't count Jason Day out.

I picked Day to win it. I'd be happy if Speith won it again, though.

The back 9 is taking no prisoners. Bubba finished at +3, and had to birdie the last hole to get that. Jason Day was one time at -5, but is now at -1. He triple bogeyed # 16. Justin Thomas finished at +4.

Jordan Spieth is the leader after day one at -6. A spectacular round, considering the windy conditions.

Shane Lowry and Danny Lee are tied for 2nd at -4. Day finished at even Par along with Phil.

Windy conditions are expected for the entire tournament, so, it will be interesting to see how things play out.

I'll be with Chech fishing tomorrow, so you guys are on your own.

Yup, that was the (poorly-attempted) joke.
In reality, he had just 25 putts.  Ernie had that on one hole!!
Unless Spieth breaks his putter (  painful), he's good!  :lol2:

I wonder if Justin Thomas bought Jordan Spieth his dinner last night. If Spieth, Thomas's good friend, had not made the two bogeys at the end of his round yesterday, Thomas would never have made the cut. Nothing better than good friends. ;)

The Top 50 plus ties make the cut or any player within 10 shots of the lead. Thomas was tied for 47th place so he was in. The only player to make the cut due to the 10 shot rule was Bubba Watson.

A total of 57 players made the cut. Only 14 are even par or better. Thomas could make a move to the middle of the pack and earn a nice check this week. Making the cut and playing on the weekend will be a good experience for the former Tide player.

LOTS of players still have a chance.  Spieth's double bogey on 18 opens the door again.

Today should be one heck of a round of golf as the weather is supposed to be better but the pin placements will be much tougher.

I wish I could have watched more of it yesterday, I'm guessing the course won. I know the conditions were brutal, hence the tough scores. Just my feeling, but I think it will come down to between Spieth and Day. And what about Smylie Kaufman, the kid from Birmingham? Gets to play in the final group today, with Spieth and only 1 shot back!

Title: Re: The Masters 2016

The Masters heating up. Spieth just made a huge birdie putt after making a bogey. He leads Englishman Danny Willett by 2 strokes.

Title: Re: The Masters 2016
Post by: 2Stater on April 10, 2016, 03:51:08 PM
Spieth has birdied 6, 7 & 8 to separate himself from the field. Willett is still at -2, 4 strokes back.

Title: Re: The Masters 2016
Post by: 2Stater on April 10, 2016, 04:00:21 PM
Justin Thomas finished in 39th place at +10.

Spieth on fire! Just made 4th birdie in a row to go -7.

Title: Re: The Masters 2016
Post by: pmull on April 10, 2016, 04:14:18 PM
Spieth is running away from the field. Three hole in ones on Hole 16 today.

Title: Re: The Masters 2016
Post by: 2Stater on April 10, 2016, 04:37:57 PM
And just like that, Spieth has back to back bogeys and Willett, back to back birdies, and a 5 shot lead is down to 1.

Gonna take a lot of inner strength for Spieth to come back from that. What a disaster.

Amen corner was not kind to Spieth over the last 2 days. He was +7, which killed him, especially the the quad bogey on 12 today. Congrats to new dad, Danny Willett of England.

My heart really goes out to Spieth. That had to be devastating to him.  :(

Good interview with him afterwards.  It was about a half hour after the awards ceremony. People were criticizing Spieth for his demeanor during the green-jacket ceremony.  Spieth explained himself, and gave classy and in-depth descriptions of his thinking during the meltdown.  Said he used the word, "Meltdown", during exchanges with his caddy on the 12th.  THE MAN HAS CLASS!

So, this weekend the golfers will be at Hilton Head.  It's an odd course, out in a salt marsh along the bay.  Prolly illegal to build today.

Nice to sit under the shadow of the lighthouse, have a drink, and watch the golf.  We did that years ago.  It'd be a fun course to play.

As much time as I spend in SC, and as much as I travel throughout that state, I have never been to Hilton Head. Would love to see that course, as I enjoy watching it on TV.

There are many courses along the SC coast that are along the marshes. No new ones that I know of, though, so you are probably right.

It is, along with Nick Faldo and I think they are pretty good. I did enjoy Summerall and Ken Venturi in their day, as well. And say what you will about Verne Lundquist and his football announcing shortcomings, but he is an icon calling the shots at #16 at the Masters.
