Title: Nick Saban talks Alabama-Penn State, conference expansion

Comments and quotes from CNS during the weekly SEC teleconference:

What's unique about facing Penn State?
Saban: You'll always get a team that plays sound fundamentals. They're gonna block and tackle and play sound in what they do. They're not gonna give you anything. You have to play the same type of football against them if you want to be successful. They're smart. They're well coached. They're disciplined. They play with good fundamentals. You'd better have the same kind of team.

* What is unique at Beaver Stadium?
Saban: There's a lot of places that have a lot of tradition that are tough places to play. It's going to be a challenge to go in there and not be affected by external factors. That's always a challenge for your football team. It will be interesting to see how our guys respond to it.

* Feel if Duron Carter could help?
Saban: We used first six or seven practices to make sure he didn't hurt something. I think he knows what to do. I still think he needs a little work on the offensive system. He's a bright guy. I think he can make a contribution starting this week.

Get ready PSU; Durrrrron's comin' (hide your hearts, girls).

Nice "Three Dog Night" reference. E-cred for that.
Can't wait to see this guy in action.  :popcorn2:

I don't recall a Bama team ever having this much talent at receiver. Penn State will stack the box on us as KSU did. We'll need those receivers to play well. I hope AJ and Phillip are up to the task.

Well even Duron knows "Eli's Coming." Now Bama is coming. I think it will be a very close game but I bet CNS is glad to Mr. Carter in there ready to go. RTR!

Imagine what our offense will be like if the line steps it up and one of those gunslingers gets comfortable and settled in.  WOW!  Then combine that with the D.  We have the potential to have a very special year, a season for the ages.

I'm hoping they have a game plan for Penn St stacking the box, no doubt that is the way they will line up and make us beat them with the pass.

I would like to see Bama use more of the short passes or dump passes and let the receivers and runningbacks get one on one with the defense, to me these are higher percentage plays and uses a lot of the clock.

If we can just get one of the QBs to avoid costly mistakes, Bama has the talent elsewhere to win a national championship.  I think that is why Saban is not settled yet on QB -- while both QBs can throw a pretty pass, neither one has shown game management "smarts" that would allow the rest of the team to win the game.  He is sending a message to the QBs that improvement is needed.

Next year will be the year of the gunslinger; hopefully we won't need one this year.  But you are right, if a QB is able to step up his game, play mistake-free football and also occassionally land a deep pass, then it would be something special.

Will we see Blake simis and the Wilcat formation this week?

We might, especially if the offense struggles early.  If we get off to a good start they might save that card for later on.

That sounds like a cut-and-paste job from Saban's comments before last year's game.
