It was 9am; students weren't responding, so he tried football as a crutch. It was dumb, but he couldn't tell dumb blonde or Polak jokes. Anyhow, just a joke. Not worthy of a gripe. Just a commencement speaker trying to connect. He also took shots at frat boys and a few others. BTW, remember that NONE of the students knew who he was two weeks ago!
