But they were a young team, starting a freshman quarterback for part of the season, and losing some close games. This year, Penn State returns eight starters on offense and seven on defense on a team looking to make some noise in the new Big 10. It opened the season ranked 25th in the coaches' poll, but has since climbed to No. 20.
