Title: Roger Goodell Hints that the NFL Could Eliminate Kickoffs
Post by: Marshal Dillon on September 14, 2016, 08:13:17 PM
Do you all think this will happen? If it does, how long before the colleges ban kickoffs? Could punts be banned later down the road, too? Just wondering.

Quote
In the NFL's continued pursuit to make the game safer, commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday that the league hasn't ruled out doing away with kickoffs completely.

Last season, the league moved kickoffs to the 25-yard line, which has increased touchbacks in an effort to limit injuries. But Goodell says the NFL might want to take it a step further.

Clemson would probably vote FOR this rule change.

Why don't they just change to 2-hand touch on kickoffs?  That would eliminate tackling and most injuries.

This would eliminate one of the most exciting plays in the game.

I was thinking the same thing but apparently a lot of injuries occur on kickoffs. The 2 hand touch has some possibilities.

I find it hard to give up the NFL because of my nearly lifelong fanhood of the Saints, but I'm getting close. The NFL's increasing politicization and participation in the culture wars using their economic might to interfere with the will of citizens in multiple states has really turned me off.

The Nothing For the Lost will not be played in my house again. I just love this country to much for idiots to use this forum of the game to make us look stupid. RTR!
