Title: Houston vs Cincinnati & Tuberville Tonight
Post by: Marshal Dillon on September 15, 2016, 05:16:53 PM
Houston @ Cincy Bearcats tonight on ESPN. Houston looked great against Oklahoma but could they be in for a letdown? The game is in Cincy & Tubby has 12 returning starters, 8 on defense. Can Tubs pull the upset? Big game for Cincy program. Houston favored by 7 1/2 points.

A good first half that ended at 10-10. Mid-way in the 3rd it became all Houston. Final Houston won 40-16.

Entertaining, but not quality football.
Wingnut doesn't have much of a team.

Well maybe Houston does belong in the Top 10 for a while. Well until they meet that one team like a Memphis or somebody that sneaks up on them when they become complacent. RTR!

They have cupcakes until late November when they play Louisville.  Memphis has a new coach and I don't know how good they will be.

I have a feeling their coach will be hired somewhere else after this season anyway. You think? RTR!

Turnovers killed Cincy. That was their problem last year. I think they were -15 in turnovers last year. They had several good drives but then a fumble or interception. Ugly game for them.

For my 2-cents...the coach leaving/staying depends on [1] If Houston gets in the Big 12.  If UH doesn't get in, then he probably doesn't stay there very long.  [2] how much $$$ he is offered to leave and who is offering it.  This is his first HC gig and he needs to prove himself.  One season doesn't do it.  But if somebody offers you a truck of $$$...you probably take the $$$ unless it's for a really dead end job.

This coach was Urban Meyer's offensive coordinator the year they won the championship.  So he hasn't been at Houston long.  After last season, he already was getting some interest, but said that he did not want to leave Houston after just one year.

I think he stays at Houston unless a premier job opens up.  And by that I mean a job where he can compete for a natty.  Last year's open jobs, like South Carolina and Virginia Tech, really don't fit that bill.

He might stay at Houston longer if they join the Big 12, but I doubt Houston will be invited to join the Big 12.  That conference already has several Texas schools, it isn't a new market, and neither Texas nor Oklahoma would welcome the competition.

LSU.

It's just 272 miles from Houston to Baton Rouge.   :popcorn2:

Well I was thinking if Texas doesn't do more than what it has done the last couple of years, they might be after a better coach. Houston being right there would be very interesting I think. RTR!

Teams chasing Coach Tom Herman of Houston next year:

LSU
Auburn
Texas A&M
Michigan (Harbaugh gets NFL job)
Oklahoma (Stoops retire from boredom & complacency)
Ohio State (Urban retires after losing to Bama in playoffs & he suffers a medical crisis, probably pneumonia)
LA Rams (hire either Harbaugh or Herman when Fisher fired)
Houston Texans

 ???

Texas looks improved this year, or it might have been Texas.

I don't see him joining the SEC and playing Saban every year.  Playing Saban in the SECCG is what caused his boss to quit.
