The demrats had held this seat since 1923. 88 consecutive years - Anthony Weiner's old house seat and Chuckie Schumer's as well.

Quote
I've never heard the 9th [congressional district] referred to as a bellwether,” Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in conference call with reporters Wednesday. Schumer represented the district for 18 years before moving to the Senate. “It is among the most conservative districts in New York, and it is changing rapidly.”

The district has actually long been safe Democratic territory, making David Weprin’s (D) loss to Bob Turner (R) even more stinging.

Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) said he wasn't concerned about an unpopular president dragging down the rest of the Democratic ticket in competitive districts, noting his own success in 2008 despite Obama's loss in his district.

"In districts where those members have not worked to represent their constituents the way they should, the way they want to be represented, it’s going to be difficult for them," Shuler said. "But I think our Blue Dogs have shown our independence, and that’s why we will be successful in this next election."

"Dems seek to stop the bleeding"?? Losing not one, but TWO special elections Tuesday isn't "bleeding", it's a severed artery gushing democrat enthusiasm down an electoral 2012 drain. Very telling indeed!
Recent polls show Romney beating Obama; the US economy is a smoking crater; Unemployment has exceeded 9% for 18 months; Obama has increased Deficit Spending 374% in 2 ½ years, etc, etc, etc.
Obama and all down-ticket Dems are in MAJOR trouble in 2012. And the Dems da#@ well know that's true!

Yes he was a Vol.. Gene Stallings and The Tide went to Knoxville in 1992 and beat a favored Vol team on the way to the NC. 17-10. Shuler was QB.

We've seen additional evidence in the last year that the Dems are steadily losing the war. LOL --I heard Howard Dean on PMSNBC whining about the treatment of bho in the press. It wasn't too many months ago they were getting tingly feelings down their leg and playing choir music in the background when their messiah entered the room.
