Title: Texas drove everyone away, now begging for ACC acceptance Post by: pmull on September 16, 2011, 08:31:10 AM There, hat in hand, is Texas. The big and bold Longhorns—the strongest brand in college football today—are scouring for crumbs with the ACC.
They started this mess last year, you know. Got together with ESPN and the combination of two mammoth egos could only mean one thing: a gigantic mess. “It’s unthinkable how the tables have turned,” said one BCS athletic director. Texas will have you believe that it didn’t blow up the Big 12, and that the perpetually average ACC is just as good as the Big 12—which is merely second only to the SEC in on-field performance since its inaugural season in 1996. http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2011-09-14/texas-drove-everyone-away-now-begging-for-acc-acceptance Title: Re: Texas drove everyone away, now begging for ACC acceptance Post by: 2Stater on September 16, 2011, 08:34:24 AM There, hat in hand, is Texas. Big 12 explodes, teams go flying all over the pacle. Big 12 explodes, teams go flying all over the pacle. How about Texas Tech to the Sunbelt? Now that would be funny as hell right there. Big 12 explodes, teams go flying all over the pacle. Sure, but to the ACC? WOW! I did not see that coming. I guess they can replace the ACC team that goes to the SEC. :) Title: Re: Texas drove everyone away, now begging for ACC acceptance Post by: pmull on September 16, 2011, 08:51:15 AM Football can pay for itself at a BCS school. But the travel expense for baseball, volleyball, tennis, etc. is going to be very expensive, not to mention a lot of school time missed.

There was an article about this not too long back, only like 5 athletic programs in the country make money. We were one of them. There was an article about this not too long back, only like 5 athletic programs in the country make money. We were one of them. I think the number was something like 16 programs make money. Alabama and Georgia were on the list. Also, I don't see the ACC taking the Texas Ego but Conference USA might be interested in them. :o Title: Re: Texas drove everyone away, now begging for ACC acceptance Post by: carl childers on September 16, 2011, 09:24:43 AM The Big 12 imploding is due to several factors, but the main factor is Texas greed in setting the agreement that drove A&M away and is driving OK and OK ST away. UT has nobody to blame but themselves.

They will have to go independent most likely. If a conference wants to get into the Texas TV market, there are several schools besides them. UT has nobody to blame but themselves. Exactly. It appears that justice will be served here too. If they go independent, they will be just as irrelevant as Notre Dame in 20 years. They already have a good start in that direction. But the question is: How much credit does CNS get for totally obliterating their program? It all started in Pasadena... They may never even sniff another BCS NCG again. :D Title: Re: Texas drove everyone away, now begging for ACC acceptance Post by: pmull on September 16, 2011, 09:29:52 AM Football can pay for itself at a BCS school. Everyone else is far behind those two. OK & OK St. go to the PAC 14 Tex. A&M of course to the SEC TT goes to the Sunbelt Texas to the ACC or MD might be right and they go to Conf. USA "The Big 12 Rejection Conf." Mizzou Ok. St. Iowa St. Kansas Kansas St. Winner goes to the Meineke "Who cares" bowl. The Big 2 Baylor SMU The winner, and I use that term loosely, will play ND in the Godaddy.com "Protestant vs Catholic" bowl More to come, stay tuned. You mke a good point that the rest of us are missing. What happens to the Big 12 leftovers? This includes: Baylor Kansas Kansas State Texas Tech Oklahoma State Missouri Iowa State The programs in the biggest hurt are Baylor, K-State, Iowa State, & maybe Texas Tech. What major conference would awant them, the answer, nobody. Kanss cn probably hook up with the Big East or ACC due to their basketball cred, Missouri MIGHT make it to the SEC or even Big 10, but who wants Iowa State or Baylor? I'm not joking when I say Conference USA or some new conference, which will be a joke. These programs are going to lose millions of dollars a year when the Big 12 implodes. :popcorn2: Title: Re: Texas drove everyone away, now begging for ACC acceptance Post by: McBaman on September 16, 2011, 10:06:36 AM TX can stay in the Big12-remnant conf, keep it's Longhorn Network, and have an automatic BC$ bowl berth every year. Not sure why they'd give all that up for ACC. Big 12 can add SMU, maybe Houston, Rice, etc. Maybe Big 12 could even lure Boise St and BYU to come in since they'd be interested in the auto BC$ bowl bid.

How amazing it is when the American greed comes into play, it has destroyed many "empires".

They should be the loser in this deal. They snuggled up with ESPN and now they will get the sloppy leftovers.

Title: Re: Texas drove everyone away, now begging for ACC acceptance Post by: Marshal Dillon on September 16, 2011, 03:37:43 PM Texas is in deep trouble if they lose their 2 rivalry games in Oklahoma & Texas A&M. Who are they going to replace those teams with, SMU, Houston, Texs El-Paso? What if no marquee teams want to play Texas out of pure spite, then what does Texas do? Their TV network will be in deep sheet with no rivalry or marquee teams to play. Think of this as their future schedule:
Baylor Rice Texas Tech Houston Kansas (assuming they don't go to the Big East) Kansas State Iowa State New Mexico Sam Houston State New Mexico State Teas El-Paso Oklahoma State (unless they find a home elsewhere) How excited will even Texas fans be with such a schedule? The will be reduced to being like Boise State. :popcorn2: |
