Title: LSU
Post by: SeniorTSM on September 16, 2011, 09:18:14 AM
What are y'all thoughts after watching them?

Here is mine FWIW:
They have one heck of a D line. a little soft at LB and DB's are good.
The O is plain Jane just like Les likes, but I will say Lee can make throws just not a threat to run.

I have to say If Bama played them right now IDK If we get the win, but I still think it would be close.

1. They are better than MSU.
2. They seem to play to the level of their competition.
3. If they didn't have a great D then they would be 1-2 right now.

We win at home now. We win at home later.

It is really tough to say.  I don't have a good feel for Miss State, but it looks like they were way over hyped.  I am guessing they finish 7-5 or 6-6, with the distinct possibility of a losing season if the wheels fall off and they have a let down now after the 0-2 start in the SEC.  So that takes a little shine off the LSU win last night.  The win over Oregon doesn't mean much to me either.

I think LSU has a really good team, but it is still too early to tell if they are the real deal this year.  I think they deserve to be ranked ahead of us at the moment considering who they have played and beaten.

I don't think Jarret Lee is going to be a problem for them.  He seems much improved, and they don't really need the QB to win the game for them.  The preseason bar fight is behind them now and I don't think it will be an issue going forward.

I though LSU looked pretty good. The D line and DB's are very good.

LSU is the best team I have seen this year including Bama. They manhandled Oregon & MSU both of whom were ranked. Jarrett Lee is playing his best ever, but I wonder how he will do if and when he throws a critical interception. LSU v Bama right now would be a hell of a defensive match, not sure how anyone would score.

LSU has great defense all around.  I was impressed how their DB's kept MSU receivers from getting open.  Their DL controlled the line.  To run against them, you gotta run wide and fast and we don't seem to have such plays in our scheme.  Right now, they would wear down our OL and 4th qtr would not be pretty.

Their OL also controlled.  Passing game probably a weakness but maybe not a liability.  Backs just keep pounding and wear out a defense.

For Bama to beat them, we gotta run wide and hit short, quick passes to maintain possession.  Good luck on that one.

LSU has a DC that is one of the smartest mind next to CNS. Chavis seems to have the best recruits with talent and they are exactly like us right now. They win with Defense, and slowly lull you to sleep with offense till the 4th Qtr. the same as we do. Right now I would take LSU and points. RTR!

I think LSU is the same as they've been in recent years.  Extremely talented and extremely unpredictable.  I think they'll drop at least one game before we get them.

The last time Bama played LSU here, LSU had injured players all over the field. Bama played with a very upbeat and ball control tempo and to me this is how you beat LSU. The "nickel-dime" offense will be a key in this game.

We will destroy that crappy qb they have.  It will get ugly early and Sims will see some significant playing time.

To beat LSU, I think you have to grab an early lead and force Lee to make plays. I can see Arkansas and/or Bama beating them but I don't think WVU or AU can do it.

LSU has a solid defense.  Bama will have to run up the middle against them, getting the edge seems unlikely given defensive speed.  Bama has more offensive weapons than MSU and will keep LSU honest, and a better inside running game than Oregon.

On offense, LSU pounds it up the middle and throws occassionally.    I think that plays to Bama's strengths.  Lee is a senior QB with knowledge of the game and playing mistake-free so far, a good game manager who lets the D win the game.  Very similar approach to Bama.

In favor of LSU:  (1) Senior QB.  Less likely to make mistakes than AJ.  (2) Second team defense.  I doubt anyone is going to wear out that D front.  Bama's second string D is young, and there is a drop off from the first string (caused, in part, by the complexity of Saban's defense, which takes time to learn.)

In favor of Bama: (1) More offensive diversity, including better WRs, a QB with more skills, and some really talented RBs. (2) More defensive diversity.  LSU does not hide their D as well as Bama.

Bama takes more chances on offense and defense; LSU plays it really close to the vest and doesn't take chances unless they are behind.

Fortunately, Bama has time to develop as a team before playing LSU; I think that is time needed.

Do y'all think the Arky D line will be a good learning format for this OL. I don't think they are as good as LSU but the Hogs up front are pretty good.

That is a good question.  I honestly have no idea what to expect from the hogs.  You can't really go by their first three games.

Lee will go back to being himself way before the Bama game.  Anyone that is reading a NC into a team for beating MSU has rocks for brains.  We'll have time to teach the LSU fans the rammer-jammer, during the game, and hold a clock management seminar for Les Miles. CNS will show his dumbass some more stuff also, but he is too dumb to learn.

With the MSU win added to the Oregon win, I can see why folks are back and forth between Bama and LSU. I get that.  What I don't understand is why Oklahoma is resting comfortably at #1. A senior QB is a real asset, but the QB play at Bama and LSU, thus far, hasn't shown any reason to redflag. I think after all is said, the reason OU is cozy in the catbird seat is that people are sick of the SEC.

#+ I see it the same way. Cowbell U is nowhere near as fast, physical or deep as Bama, especially on D. We expose Lee this year for the flaws he possesses. Turnovers will do him in. I, too, think we win fairly easily.

You guys are much more confident than I am and I hope you are right!  We'll see how both teams develop between now and Nov.  If Jordan gets out of his legal mess, I wonder what Les will do with him?

Could come down to the field goal teams...they kicked a couple from 41, 42 yards out, and I seriously doubt our kicker than can do that well, when the chips are down.

I'm calling it now..the game will be decided by field goals.

And I believe the winner goes to the NCG.

It is not likely we will see J. Lee don't you think? I think Jefferson will be the QB when we play LSU. Their defensive front is young and has speed. They have a DC that is not always bad. I would have to take the points.  RTR!
