Title: "Pat Dye returns to Bryant-Denny Stadium for 40-year reunion"

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- Former Alabama assistant coach and Auburn head coach Pat Dye addressed the media prior to kickoff of Alabama's game against North Texas tonight. Dye, who served as linebackers coach under Bear Bryant, is at Bryant-Denny Stadium for the 40-year reunion of the 1971 Alabama team.

"I don't know how long it's been since I've been over here," Dye said. "My first reaction was just to stay at home and watch it on television, but I got to thinking about it. You know, I haven't been back to Tuscaloosa in, say, 30 years and I'd like to go back and see all those guys I coached in the 60s and 70s."

Dye, who was the head coach at Auburn between 1981 and 1991, also spoke about the Tigers' 38-24 defeat at Clemson earlier today.

"They didn't play much different than they did the first two games," he said. "It's not surprising. We played two tough ball games back to back. You're not going to be at the top of your game every day. This is a young, young football team, and they're going to take their lumps throughout the course of the year."

Interesting way he used first person plural (we) to discuss the Boogers first 2 wins; 2nd person when saying they'll "take their lumps".

I thought that was him on the field. The pressbox announcer did not call his name, called out Musso, Robin Parkhouse and Jeff Rouzie from the 1971 team plus others. Those 3 were honored by going out to mid field during coin toss. In fact CNS meet them as they came off field with a handshake.

I would be much happier if he never comes back to Bryant Denny again.  8)

He could still come back a hero in my eyes ...

if he comes clean about the Booger recruiting violations and pay-for-play crap.  He could do it, but he'll have to realize that winning with class is more important than winning at all costs.  Those costs can cost you a reputation, and his is on shaky ground.

I agree. He has shown a total disrespect to the University over the years and the people that gave his career a start.

He came to Bryant-Denny, Auburn lost the same day.  If that formula holds up he can come every Saturday.

I lost all respect for Dye when he let Larry Blakney take the fall for him. He has no respect for Bama, it's all about him and the Barn.
