Title: Les Miles Says He Would Coach Outside the Power 5
Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 06, 2017, 07:13:24 PM
Can you say desperate? Does this mean he could end up at East Carolina, Miles College, La-Monroe, or elsewhere?

Quote
“There are a number of great jobs out there and I’m not limiting myself [to Power 5 programs],” Miles said, via David Ching of ESPN. “But I do want the opportunity to build, I want to stay there some time and I want to win championships. That’s pretty simple.”

I wouldn't say he is desperate.  I think he just wants to do what he loves to do, coach football. Nothing wrong with that IMO...

Consider this:

He was at a top team in the best conference in college football.
He has won 2 SEC Championships.
He won a National Championship.
He has more players in the NFL than any other coach.
He has been an excellent recruiter.
He was 114-34 with 77% winning percentage at LSU.

Now, he can't find a good job in college football and is literally willing to take almost anything in order to get back in the game. That's desperation with his resume'. I understand why he's having a problem, though.

I don't understand why lsu fired a great coach in my opinion. He had one team he couldn't beat and that really was us. He was always mentioned in the presence of great teams and coaches. I think he could pick the place he would want to be but I think it ends up out west really. RTR!

Nobody knew what the heck he was talking about.
Like talking to Coach Zero, but not ending in anything audible.

Hey, if he doesn't find another job then in about three years LSU might hire him back... :lol2:

Miles was making 4.3 Million this year.  He had a buy-out of around 12.9 million.  That number would be off-set by any salary that he is able to secure.  I wouldn't think anyone owed that kind of money would be legitimately considered desperate...

I would just like to have the interest off that kind of money so I could help myself and other people who are in need. RTR!

I like CLM. He is a little odd but he handled himself with class. I hope he gets back in coaching. He does not need the money. He may be happy at a small school. Some coaches just love the game and working with the kids. I think he will end up at a place like Indiana, Illinois or Kansas where moderate success is rewarded. Kind of like Cutcliff did at Duke.

I think Les realizes that he'll never make it in the booth, because, as Chech said, nobody would understand what the hell he is saying. That only leaves coaching, the only thing he has ever done. I don't think he is desperate, but I don't think he would be too picky, either.

I know that the kid that had cancer over in Vestavia Hills near B'ham Less helped him and his family a lot. when the kid died Les came to the funeral to be with the parents. I think that shows his honesty with kids. RTR!

Not talking about money. He's the one that said he would coach outside the Big 5 Conferences even with his record. That's desperation. I think he wants to prove he can still coach and win big. He's 63 and plays very conservative offensive football. That's why he can't get a major job. He couldn't even get the job at Minnesota or Purdue for gosh sakes. I really wonder where he might land as a coach.
