Title: Not News - Syracuse, Pitt officially leave for ACC - Presser @ 930 AM EST Post by: Coach Hank Crisp on September 18, 2011, 08:21:13 AM http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation
Quote Syracuse and Pitt officially have been accepted as members of the ACC, leaving the Big East scrambling to re-fill its membership ranks. The ACC made the announcement Sunday morning. Here are the statements from Syracuse and Pitt included in the release: “This is an exciting day for the University of Pittsburgh. We have a long history of competing and collaborating with the distinguished universities that already are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, and have enormous respect for both their academic strengths and their athletic accomplishments,” Pitt Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg said. “In looking to our own future, we could not envision a better conference home for Pitt and are grateful to the Council of Presidents for extending an invitation to join the ACC community.” "We are very excited to be joining the ACC. This is a tremendous opportunity for Syracuse, and with its outstanding academic quality and athletic excellence, the ACC is a perfect fit for us," said Nancy Cantor, Chancellor and President of Syracuse. I see this as a pre-emptive move to try to keep any of their big dogs from leaving for the SEC. Or they might already know that 2 of them are leaving and there was an agreement among the parties involved to wait until the replacements where in place.
I wish all of this nonsense would have happened during the offseason. We have football to keep up with now, not conference musical chairs. I wish it had happened in the offseason as well, when everyone is looking for something to read and talk about. I thought when the talk subsided this summer it would be over until January. I still contend these discussions and moves would not be happening if not for the SEC winning 5 straight NCs. It speaks of the character of the people involved that they chose to address the SEC dominance issue in committee meetings rather than on the practice fields around the country.I wish all of this nonsense would have happened during the offseason. We have football to keep up with now, not conference musical chairs. Good question. I guess they have until the season starts next year to find some replacements.
