Title: Another Assistant Coach Leaving Bama
Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 28, 2017, 09:44:56 PM
Arizona State? WTH?

Quote
Alabama is losing another assistant coach.

Wide receivers coach Billy Napier is expected to be hired as Arizona State's offensive coordinator, sources told AL.com.

The 37-year old Napier has been the Tide's wide receivers coach since 2013, helping to develop players such as All-American Amari Cooper and All-SEC selections Calvin Ridley and ArDarius Stewart.

Ouch. That one hurts worse than Lane leaving.

True. He must be getting a good raise to go there. Hate to see him go.

Well, we'll miss his recruiting.
But I'm hoping to see our receivers running wide open for a change.

I am not surprised that Napier is leaving.  He used to be OC at Clemson. (Fired by Dabo.)  I remember reading somewhere that, after Kiff left, Napier said he thought he had a good chance to get the OC job at Bama. (That may have been wishful thinking.) Maybe he even deflected some opportunities 'cause he thought his chances were good.

Sark got the job.  So Napier probably thought he had to go elsewhere to advance.

Let him go to ASU and prove himself.  Who knows how long Sark will last.  (Longtime, I hope.)

Was he "asked" to leave, maybe?

CNS had hinted that there may be other staff moves so I do not think this was unexpected to him.

There are staff changes every year. I'm not saying position coaches don't matter, but as long as Saban is here I'm not worried about anyone under him leaving.

Just make sure you put a clause in your contract that allows you to continue to do the post-game write ups for us here...  8)
