"Effective immediately, Earvin Johnson will be in charge of all basketball operations and will report directly to me. Our search for a new General Manager to work with Earvin and Coach Luke Walton is well underway and we hope to announce a new General Manager in short order. Together, Earvin, Luke and our new General Manager will establish the foundation for the next generation of Los Angeles Lakers greatness. Next, expect attempts to sign/trade for Michael Westbrook, Anthony Davis, Paul George, and maybe Jimmy Butler. Can't wait to see what they do. Hope they keep Larry Nance, an everyday player who grinds it out every game. Traded Lou Williams (3 point shooter) to Rockets for Corey Brewer (6'9" guard/small forward) & 1st round pick in 2017 Draft.

With the addition of Cousins this week they have two of the league's premier players who are just now heading into their primes. They still need help, but with some smart moves in free agency over the next year or two they should be a title contender. Magic has proven to be a very good businessman, and his ties to the team can only help. However, I do wonder if not having any front office experience will hurt in the short term as far as negotiations, trades, etc. (and I think the NBA is at or near the trade deadline). Time will tell, but if nothing else it gets people talking about the Lakers again, who have been an after thought the past 3 or 4 years.

Remember, teams traded Wilt Chamberlin and Kareem-Abdul Jabbar to the Lakers. Plus, Davis can demand a trade or become a free agent.
