Title: "Tide notes: Barrett Jones still at left tackle (for now)" Post by: Chechem on September 20, 2011, 05:40:51 AM (http://media.al.com/sports_impact/photo/10017739-large.jpg)
Quote TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- Junior Barrett Jones started at left tackle in each of Alabama's first three games, but against North Texas, he moved to right tackle for much of the game and also played center for a series or two. Jones practiced at left tackle Monday. True freshman Cyrus Kouandjio still is the backup, but he was in the North Texas game for approximately 40 plays with the first-team line. Saban indicated that if something happened to any of Alabama's other starting linemen, Jones would move there and Kouandjio would play left tackle. "He did much better in this game than the first game," Saban said of Kouandjio. "We'll just keep developing him and helping him improve. We have every confidence in him that if he has to play, he will play well." Ill Milliner misses practice Dee Milliner, a sophomore who plays cornerback in Alabama's nickel and dime defenses, missed practice Monday because he was sick. Junior safety Robert Lester (back spasms) participated in practice, as did backup right tackle Arie Kouandjio, who did not dress for the North Texas game, and "nicked up" senior inside linebacker Chris Jordan, who has yet to play this season. "We expect everybody to be full strength and ready to go tomorrow, for sure," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/09/tide_notes_barrett_jones_still.html Title: Re: "Tide notes: Barrett Jones still at left tackle (for now)" Post by: Jamos on September 20, 2011, 07:22:01 AM I think Jones is carving himself a very nice check when the football draft comes about, this guy can play anywhere.

Sometimes for several minutes. Just guessing but BJ is probably giving coach a progress report on the other lineman. His grandfather, who my Mom knew well, coached basketball at UNA for years and won a national championship there.

His grandfather, who my Mom knew well, coached basketball at UNA for years and won a national championship there. Close enough relationship to a Bama player to earn yourself a shameless e-cred. I'm not sure I understand that relationship, but ... well... :-X Title: Re: "Tide notes: Barrett Jones still at left tackle (for now)" Post by: SUPERCOACH on September 20, 2011, 10:34:48 AM Quote Saban indicated that if something happened to any of Alabama's other starting linemen, Jones would move there and Kouandjio would play left tackle. This is the reason for the musical chairs on the line. Jones has been getting reps at every spot all year. I expect the line play to be much improved this week. |
