Title: NFL Draft
Post by: SeniorTSM on April 27, 2017, 10:48:03 AM
So ive seen some predictions about the picks.

Do people really think Myles Garret is all that? I dont think he made very many plays against Bama or LSU. He is fast but he also got hurt...a lot!

Also they have Fournete going to Jacksonville...Really? they dont need a RB (they have an Alabama RB) what they need is an OL.

I guess we will see tonight :popcorn2:

I agree. Myles Garrett is a good athlete, but I don't see him as a great LB. Also, most of the mock drafts have Trubisky going before Deshaun Watson. I just don't see it. I envision Trubisky being a total bust and Watson the next Warren Moon. Of course, my predicter has busted for about 3-4 yrs now, so what do I know?  :dunno:

Myles Garrett did nothing against Alabama.  Meanwhile, Jonathan Allen (aka Superman) leaped over offensive linemen in a single bound against aTm.  I don't know how anybody that watched that game would pick MG over JA.

I think they get caught up Combine and Pro day stats. MG looks the part, Runs fast. But what did he do against top competition?

Ryan Anderson will be a steal for some team. they say third round...gezzz.

Title: Re: NFL Draft
Post by: Marshal Dillon on April 27, 2017, 02:58:12 PM
Allen didn't look like Superman in the Combine, which is nothing but numbers, that's why teams fail so miserably in the Draft. Manziel did a fantastic interview for the Browns resulting in him being picked 24th overall in the 2014 Draft. How's that working out? Tom Brady was picked in the 6th round of the Draft. So much for all the geniuses in the NFL and the media. The best top 10 pick in the 2000 NFL Drat was #3 Chris Samuels, LT for Alabama. Close second was #5 Jamal Lewis, Tennessee.

 :duh:

Fournette 3rd to the Jags. Dumb pick. Fournette wasn't even the best RB on LSU last year. Jax needs some offensive linemen to spring some holes for those guys.

There have been so many 1st round flame-outs that teams are skittish about taking guys with much of a hint of injury history.  (That said, Fournette went at #4 ????)  I think injury history sometimes affects Bama players.

5th round: Tim Williams (maybe even 6th), Ryan Anderson

This was one of the wilder, least predictable first rounds I can remember. There are some good players still on the board, and the teams at the end of the first round got some steals on defense because of the run on offensive players.

I'm not surprised Cook didn't go in the first round. Teams rarely take RBs high anymore, with the exception of Elliot last year and Fournette and McCAffrey this year. I read somewhere that due to the structure of of first round contracts, Fournette and McCaffrey will be two of the four highest paid RBs in the league next year. That's crazy.

Reuben Foster mystery solved:

http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2017/04/nick_saban_lends_new_insight_i.html

Quote
Nick Saban spoke to AL.com late Thursday night about several issues related to Alabama's first-round picks. That included Foster's shoulder.

"Look, the way we like for things to get handled, that didn't get handled," Saban told AL.com. "We have the best doctors in the world in Dr. (James) Andrews and Dr. (Lyle) Cain who operate on most NFL players and his agent chose to take him someplace else. I think (Andrews and Cain) have tremendous credibility.

"So, you know, all these choices and decisions that you make have consequences and I hate it for our players when they do it, but he didn't seek my advice in what he should do. So, if that was an issue, that was an issue. It shouldn't have been an issue but if it was, I don't really know much about it."

Jacksonville is the Dumbest team out there. They take a RB, when the real need is OL. If they still think Blake Borttles  can be their QB then why not protect the poor dude. even if Fournete is all that he cant run if nobody blocks for him (see Bama games). Plus they have a quality RB in TJ Yeldon that may not be a bruiser but he can run and catch. We will see how ole Fournete runs with no one blocking for him. He is a talented RB but you can't build a team around a RB. Game is won and lost in the trenches.

Emitt Smith wouldn't have been anything without that great Dallas OL. just saying.

From an NFL GM's perspective, I think this is a pretty deep draft class.  That seems to be causing any player with any hint of injury issue to get pushed down the list.  Looks like this has affected Ruben (although he has other issues), Cam R and Eddie J.

CNS made an interesting comment saying that if you're going to get drafted late 1st round, it's (almost) better to go in the 2nd round 'cause you get to free agency earlier.  I'm not sure how this works but that's an interesting trade off, (i.e. 1st round $$$ now vs. free agency $$$ a year earlier down the road.) Probably a little better to get the 1st round $$$ now since you never know what the future holds.

Here's how the draft breakdown by conference looks. Hopefully I didn't miss too many.

SEC       53
ACC       42
PAC 12   36
BIG 10   35
AAC       15 (AAC members Houston, Temple, South Florida had 3 selections each, just like Michigan)    :lol2:
BIG 12   14

Selected last in the Draft with the 253rd pick is Mr. Irrelevant Chad Kelly. Sort of sums up Ole Miss's season & future.

Malachi Dupre was 7th round, pick 29 (247 overall). How different would his career have been at Bama?

One, he would have won a National Championship.
Two, he would have played on 3 consecutive Championship SEC titles teams.
Third, he would actually have had more passes thrown to him compared to Les, up the middle, Miles.
Fourth, he would have been at worst a 4th round draft pick.

Michigan had 17 starters available for the NFL Draft. They had THREE players drafted. Brady Hoke did a great job recruiting and developing players when he was head coach.

Very interesting Draft this year, especially with Drew Pearson, great Cowboys WR with Staubach mocking Eagles fans. Watch the video.

What the heck. I know I read somewhere they had 3 picks. I checked on Michigan State & they had 2, so I'm mystified. I guess Bray Hoke is a recruiting genius.

Chad Kelly, Ole Miss QB not selected, yet, in 6th round. This late in the draft he could be a sleeper pick.

 :lol3:

I'm confused.  I thought he was the best QB in the country. ???
