After he traded two games to the NCAA for the one he played in 2007, he was granted a final year of eligibility.

"Man, it felt great," Hanks said. "I felt like I was a caged animal. It felt to be back out there on the field and play with the guys and everything. I had been practicing with the scout team for two weeks and I was ready to get from over there to be back with my group."

Hanks said he made it a priority to work hard against the No. 1 defense, and to give them a good look during his stay on the scout team. He said it was "rough" being on the scout team, but kept his head up knowing former defensive lineman Marcell Dareus worked briefly on the scout team last season.

Hanks said he talked was "messing" with the veterans with a little "back and forth." Did he get any special treatment?

"Coach got on one of the guys because he wouldn't hit me," Hanks said. "And he said, 'Don't worry, you're not going to hurt him.' It was just fun being over there with those guys."
