Title: Bama vs Minnesota - Softball Saturday in Tuscaloosa. BAMA WINS 1-0 in 9 innings
Post by: Chechem on May 20, 2017, 12:23:34 PM
Game is on ESPN.

Minnesota has an incredible 55-3 record, but is close to having a season-high number of strikeouts against Osorio today.

No score in the 3rd.

Jamos is right behind the plate.  Just texted me, "Man, it's hot out here!"
"GIVE 'EM HELLL, JAMOS!"

Good hit by Demi Turner in bottom of 3rd, but she was stranded after stealing 2nd.

Still no score.
Minnesota's huge pitcher with a huge name, Sara Groenewegen, is powerful.  Real pitcher's duel thus far.  Bama has only 1 hit.

Jamos: "We can't hit a lick."  TRUE!!

Jamos thinks our batters need to move up in the box against this pitcher.

Bama hit one to the wall in bottom of 4th, but just a long out.

Still 0-0.

Osorio got her 9th strikeout in top of 5th, and Minnesota is still frustrated.

Bama is up.  Jamos thinks we need to swing at the first pitch.  Their pitcher throws a strike almost every 1st pitch, then starts with the off-speed crap.

WE NEED RUNS!!

Top of 7th:

Osorio thought she had lead-off batter struck out, but umpire said "BALL 4".

First runner for UM since 1st inning.

 :popcorn2:

Swinging bunt moves runner to 2nd.  One out.

 :popcorn2:

Weak popout gives UM 2nd out.  Osorio has 119 pitches.

Hit batter; UM has runners on 1st and 2nd.  Two outs.
 :popcorn2:

Sara Groenewegen (UM pitcher) pops out for 3rd out!!

Bottom of the 7th.  Bama can win it here!!   :)

Left fielder made a great diving catch to rob the Bama leadoff batter.   :wall:

Second batter sends a 3-2 count deep into right field, but it's caught for out 2.

Hemphill gets a single into right field on a 1-2 count.  Only Bama's 2nd hit of the day!!

Bama steals 2nd base.  Winning runner at 2nd base for Bama!

Reagan Dykes flies out to right.

 :wall: :wall:

TOP of 9th.

Both pitchers have 10 strikeouts.  Both have over 100 pitches; Osorio has 50 more pitches and 5 walks (one intentional).  MN has 1 hit; Bama just 2.

MN's 1st batter in 9th pops out to Demi Turner (2nd base; chased it into right field).

Batter #2 also pops out to Turner (backing into right field again).

Batter #3 (Groenewegen) gets a double into the gap at right-center field.  Runner at 2nd with 2 outs.

Batter #4 strikes out!!  OSORIO!!

Bottom of the 9th.  Bama needs to win this right here.  MN has had runners on 2nd base each of the last 3 innings.  Osorio has thrown waaaay too many pitches (~180).  Groenewegen looking strong still, but Bama has hit the ball deep occasionally.

Demi Turner leads off with a single.  She beats it out.  She has 2 of Bama's 3 hits.

Batter #2 (Alyssa Brown) bunts poorly and Demi is thrown out at 2nd.  One out!  But Brown is speedy at first base.

Batter #3 (Chandler Dare) gets a clean hit to center.  Runners at 1st and 2nd.  One out.

Batter #4 (Runyon) gets hit by pitch.  Bases loaded; one out.

Batter #5 (Hemphill) has power.  All she needs is a solid hit.  But she pops out to 3rd.  :wall:  2 outs.

Batter #6 (Reagan Dykes) gets Bama's first walk of the day.  :jump:

BAMA WINS!!

Great game! Won't we have to play them again if they win their elimination game and we advance?

Yep, after they beat Louisiana Tech.
