Title: U.S. Open golf
Post by: 2Stater on June 17, 2017, 04:27:45 PM
Justin Thomas just broke the all-time record for lowest round ever in a U.S. Open at -9. He leads right now by 2 strokes.

JT has a good chance to win this thing.  US Open is usually won by golfers who can keep their tee shots in the fairway and putt well.  Hope he can hold it together tomorrow.

He is one stroke behind Harman and tied with 3 others. He will be in the last group with Harman. The only worry I have with him is that it's very unusual for a golfer to have a great or even good round after shooting a super round the day before. I hope he proves me wrong. He certainly has the talent to win it all.

JT had a great round of golf yesterday. He hit fairways and greens for the most part and made some unbelievable putts. He shot -9 and still had two bogeys. He packs a lot of power in his small frame. He has won three times this year and is #2 in FedEx points. He is capable. He needs attack the par 5's, play smart, make a few putts and avoid a bad hole.

It is a crowded leader board. A lot of players within 3-4 shots of the lead. The leader board is void of the big names. Ricky Fowler may be the biggest name in contention. This will be an interesting day of golf. The leaders go off late so I will try and watch the back nine.

Four former Alabama players qualified for the US Open. Bud Cauley and Dru Love (Davis Love's son) missed the cut. Trey Mullinax is having a nice open at -4.

I didn't get to see much of the Open on Sunday, but from what I did see, it seemed JT's drives were not finding the fairway as well as on Sat, and his putting was not as good as Sat.  Those two things will kill you in a U S Open.

Winner's prize $$$ was over $2.0MM.  Whew!  For a lot of guys, that's a good YEAR.

Noteworthy that the first prize $$$ in the LPGA tourney was only $300k.  Where are the feminists on that discrepancy???
