Bolden is a three-star all-purpose back in the 247Sports composite, and is being recruited as an athlete/slot receiver by Alabama...

Woot.

We need more of those speedy and elusive types.
And more DBs too, should he end up there!

We're excited about a 3 star signee? Sounds more like Auburn or Misses State.

1. I trust Saban more than the recruiting services to evaluate talent.
2. Saban has recruited quite a few "3 stars" who turned into NFL material.

  :popcorn2:, have to agree with CP on this one. If he didn't have promise I don't think CNS would have given him the time of day. RTR!

I've been reading a lot of insider stuff on this kid. He has a ton of upside.

I can think of Chance Warmack, maybe Marcel Dareus, and Ryan Kelly. Who else?

Mark Ingram, Greg McElroy, Mount Cody, Kevin Norwood, Marquis Maze, Javier Arenas were all 3 star recruits in the opinion of most services. Just a few off the top of my head.

Just because  recruiting services rate them at whatever they do, they aren't experts. Coaches are looking for certain athletic traits for certain positions. They spend a lot more time on film and HS coaches input, than the recruiting services.

Ingram was a 4 star (Rivals), McElroy was in the NFL long enough to get a cup of coffee, Cody was a 3 star (I thought he was 4 star), Arenas was 3 star and a solid player in the NFL, Maze never caught a pass in the NFL because he never played a game, Norwood with the Giants. Showing up at an NFL camp or playing a year or two with no impact is not my idea of "playing" or "making the NFL. Warmack, Dareus, and Cody actually made the NFL & contributed. I never use Scout.com for recruiting ratings. I stay consistent by using the same service, Rivals, since there is so much variance between services.

I don't care what they did in the NFL. What matters is they were 3 star recruited players that were good enough to be drafted or offered FA contracts, whether they panned out in the NFL or not.

Of the two major recruiting services, Rivals had the more generous evaluation of the two, pegging Ingram as a four-star recruit and the #17 athlete prospect in the country. Of course, though, even with that in mind, it's not like Rivals was particularly sold on Ingram. He was by no means considered an elite recruit -- they had him as the #189 overall prospect in the country -- and the mere fact that they evaluated him as an athlete tells you that they weren't particularly sold on the prospect of him even being a tailback at the next level. They weren't even certain that he wouldn't play linebacker or safety in college.

Yeah, Rivals was real confident in that 4 star rating.  :eyeroll:

And I guess because you don't think Scout is a relevant recruiting service, they might as well just fold.  :eyeroll: :eyeroll:

Mark Ingram, Terrance Cody, Josh Chapman, MarQuis Maze, Robert Lester, Kevin Norwood, Antony Steen, Jake Coker, Eddie Jackson, Bradley Bozeman, SD Hamilton and Josh Jacobs were all three stars. Going back a little further DeMeco Ryans. I think Johnny Manziel was a three star for A&M.

Like others have said I think our staff does a better job evaluating players than the recruiting services.
