The National Anthem is about the country and the flag and soldiers fighting for their country. It's all about the country. This players are trying to have it both ways.

Yes sir I read this rule or sorry, part of it the other day. They are wrong and should be fined by the nfl but they let it slide because they are scared of the players. RTR!

I lost a little respect for Mark Ingram today.

I really haven't paid much attention to what the players are doing.  They don't have a clear message they are trying to get out, and, acting out during the anthem isn't ever going to be an effective communications strategy.

Kapernack, who is a top notch jerk in my opinion, started this and how did it work out for him?

The world is upside down.  Why even pay attention to it, unless you enjoy getting pissed?

Just tape the games and skip past commercials and garbage (of all sorts).

I worked in television for 30+ years.  What XBAMA says here is largely correct.  The only other ratings info could be viewing diaries which used to be done 3 - 4 times a year, the next period for which would be November.  But with the advent of "people meters" I'm not sure they do diaries anymore.

There may be some special phone surveys done to check on NFL viewing. 

I'm with pmull on this. I am truly disappointed in Mark Ingram.

I quit watching the NFL last year, with the exception of the Falcons in the playoffs, but I will not be watching any games this year. NFL ratings and attendance were down last year, and it will be more dramatic this year.

However, they are collecting data on viewing habits using smart devices, including TVs, blue ray players, cable boxes, streaming, etc.  While Vizio got caught and sued because data collection was automatic, subscribing to any smart service generally includes a fine print agreement on tracking, unless you are able to manually opt out.  (Who wants to use data from Nielsen's 5000 boxes when they can get data on millions of households.)

I don’t want to appear to be a conspiracy theorist but I think it’s interesting to see almost every aspect of our country being attacked. First the Confederate flag, now the American flag. Civil War monuments being moved and vandalized and now even the Lincoln Memorial being vandalized along with some wanting Thomas Jefferson to be excommunicated from UVA he founded.  Then Antifa admitting they are arming themselves for violent protests.

False grievances. Perceived slights. Herd mentality.  The macroview of this whole thing is alarming.
