Title: Alabama and the NCAA Tourney-Overview by a 40 Year Tide BB Fan Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 13, 2011, 08:32:13 PM We all know, by now, that the Tide did not get invited to the Big Dance this year. What everyone has to accept is this was no one's fault by the TIde BB team, not the refs, not the NCAA Committee, but the fault of the team. The team failed miserably in November & December and lost to cupcakes it should have crushed. Plus, Coach Grant scheduled a high school level of talent to play early in the season. Teams such as:
UAH (exhibition game we won by 5 points) Florida A&M Troy Alabama A&M South Alabama Southeastern Louisiana Lipscomb Peppedine Toledo This has happened before when Gottfried scheduled a bunch of cupcakes, but after being snubbed by the NCAA, he started playing better teams and we started making the Dance. I think the team exceeded Grant's expectations and we will be MUCH better next year. :D Title: Re: Alabama and the NCAA Tourney-Overview by a 40 Tide BB Fan Post by: SUPERCOACH on March 13, 2011, 08:36:10 PM This is all true.

Title: Re: Alabama and the NCAA Tourney-Overview by a 40 Tide BB Fan Post by: pmull on March 13, 2011, 08:39:14 PM The schedule also included Iowa, Seton Hall and Providence that are normally strong teams that happen to be weak this year. We also lost the first game in a stong field in Puerto Rico that put us in the weaker losers bracket. The barn and LSU had RPI's over 200. Arkansas was considered a bad loss.
On paper prior to the season our schedule did not look bad. I am guessing it's not like football (years)? BB games are mostly scheduled on a yearly basis, unless you have a game home & away series with a team, like we did with Purdue. Coach Grant can definitely put together a very good schedule next year if he wants to. BB is very flexible with a different schedule possible every year. On paper prior to the season our schedule did not look bad. The game was in the Virgin Islands and the field was weak. We lost all three games there, all cupcakes. Seton Hall hasn't been good in a while. We are playing in the Puerto Rico Tipoff in 2011 and the field looks very strong. Teams include: Wichita State 24-8 in 2010 Maryland 19-14 Purdue 25-7 Temple 25-7 Iona 22-11 Colorado 21-13 This is a good-looking field and one more team is to be added. Much easier to be a 3 seed instead of a 9 seed. Bama will be so much more improved next year, just wait & see, this team will be hungry & mad ready to smash every team they play, Bama has too many young guys to forget what happened this year & CAG is a motivator

We will have an outstanding team next year, if Greene returns. If he leaves early, we can be good, but it will be a struggle. We need him for the inside power game. I expect Mitchell, Releford, & Hankerson to be better outside shooters next year. Although my little heart is sad we will be better. RTR! State, Georgia, Ole Miss, & Alabama during the season. |
