Title: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 12:58:21 PM A win on the road at Florida today would be a huge boost for this team, but it's considered unlikely. Florida is about an 8-point favorite.
This is a dangerous stretch of the season. We have another tough game against #18 Tennessee next Saturday, with a road trip to Starkville in between. State has been playing well lately. If we lose all three, I don't think we'd be able to recover to make the tourney. Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: pmull on February 03, 2018, 01:43:48 PM Which team will show up? The one that beat Oklahoma or the one that lost To Mizzou.
We have not beaten UF in a long time. A road win in Gainesville this afternoon would be huge. We need a good road win so maybe today will be our day. Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: pmull on February 03, 2018, 02:51:28 PM Other games:
A&M beating South Carolina. Mizzou at home up by 7 over UK with 15 minutes to play. Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 03:10:10 PM Game is sloppy early.
Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 03:33:51 PM It doesn't take watching very long to see that Florida plays a with a lot more maturity and intelligence than Bama does. Part of that is experience, but I'm not sure that part of it isn't coaching too.
Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 03:53:20 PM I have no idea how we're only down by six points (33-27) at half. Really not playing good basketball at all.
Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 04:06:48 PM It would be nice if ESPN would remove itself from Trae Young's manhood long enough to focus on another game.
Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 04:17:45 PM Bama scores the first 8 points of the second half to take their first lead since the first minute of the Missouri game on Wednesday night. It's still an ugly ballgame.
Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 04:35:17 PM Florida playing poorly and keeping us in this thing. Up by five (48-43) halfway through the 2nd half.
Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 04:40:43 PM Florida is ice cold. We need to extend this lead before they wake up!
54-43 with 7:20 left to play. Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 04:52:46 PM We started playing better D and moving the ball around on offense, and it has led to a lot of high quality shots for us.
Florida is absolutely frigid, partially due to our D and poor shot selection. The lead is at 15 with 3 minutes to go. Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 04:57:01 PM This win is going to help our resume quite a bit, and I'm proud to get the win in a tough game on the road, but I'm not entirely sure what to take from the game. It's been ugly, and something has been horribly amiss by Florida. I hope it was our D, but it seemed to be a deeper problem.
Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: pmull on February 03, 2018, 04:59:36 PM What a great 2nd half. We just blew out UF on their home floor.

It's been ugly, and something has been horribly amiss by Florida. I hope it was our D, but it seemed to be a deeper problem. All of UF’s big guys are hurt. We killed them around the rim in the 2nd half. Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Catch Prothro on February 03, 2018, 05:04:13 PM Nice. 18. Point. Win. #+
On the road against a ranked team. #+ That was a Tale of Two Halves. Sloppy play in the first half. But Bama blew out Florida in the second half by running a very efficient offense and tight defense. Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: pmull on February 03, 2018, 05:15:19 PM We turned the ball over 14 times in the 1st half. Only 5 in the 2nd half. We shot the ball well. 55% from the field and 31% from 3 point line. We out rebounded them 43-25. We had 46 points in the paint to their 26.
Hall had a nice game with 14 points and 11 boards.Sexton had 17 points with 8 boards and 6 assists. AJ Jr played well with 10 points 2 stls, 2 assists and 2 boards. Key is starting to get his stroke back he had 13 today. Ingram had a solid game with 8 points. Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: 2Stater on February 03, 2018, 06:10:46 PM This is a very fickle team. You never know what to expect from game to game. I'm not buckling up anymore. I'm watching the rest of the season from my neighbor's motorcycle, in the parking lot, with my feet propped on the handlebars.
Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: ricky023 on February 03, 2018, 06:30:03 PM Well I just got home and I am thrilled to see a big win for us. We were talking at conference today how going don to Fla. might a very game for us but boy it sounds like it was fun. RTR!
Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: McBaman on February 03, 2018, 06:54:30 PM There is a question: How good could this team be? And there is another question: How good WILL this team be?
I can't answer either. Title: Re: Basketball @ Florida - Sat 2/3 - ESPN 3PM Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 03, 2018, 07:02:28 PM Must have been Wimp's calming effect :lol2:

Miss St away and UT at home. UT is a very good team sitting at 17-5 (7-3) and RPI of 13. We have always struggled at Miss St but that is a winnable game.
NOTES: According to WarrenNolan.com we have played 8 quality games. We were 6-2 in those games. Only Virginia 7-1, Villanova 8-1 and Kansas 8-2 have done better. Those teams are projected 1 & 2 seeds. Two other teams have won 6 quality games Purdue 6-2 and Oklahoma 6-5. Most teams have not played 8 quality games. We have no bad losses. Our worst losses came on the road against Minnesota (RPI 117) and Vandy (113). Many talking heads are giving us a pass on the Minnesota loss because we played the 2nd half with 3 players and almost won. If the SEC Tournament started today we would be a 3 or 4 seed. We are tied for 3rd with a 6-4 record with UK and Florida. We would get the tie breaker over UF. Our RPI after yesterday's games is 36 with ESPN and 38 with Warren Nolan & RealtimeRPI. We are being projected anywhere from a 7-11 seed if the NCAA Tournament started today. Our SOS is 13. Every time I record the game and watch later Bama wins. If I watch while it is on live we lose.
