Title: Chalk one up for us handsitters!
Post by: BAMADCHAMPSHIPS on September 29, 2011, 12:56:15 PM
"To stand or not to stand: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the crowd to suffer the boredom and passivity of sitting down or to stand up against the wishes of outrageous management, and by opposing, get kicked out. To stand, to sit? No more."

Before I had both of my knees replaced 3 years ago it was almost impossible for me to stand up and sit down constantly at a game. Fortunatly I sit in a section at Bryant Denny where there is very little of a problem with that. When I would go to the road games, Atlanta for instance, it was a problem and I just quit going to any  because it wasn't very enjoyable.

In most of my cases where standing was an issue, there was a lot of heavy drinking and most were younger fans. Back in my younger years I would have a few drinks at the games but I was never discourteous to any fans and would even ask folks to please sit if I noticed someone around me that had a standing problem.

Somewhere over the years, the word "respect" has disappeared from the English vocabulary and to me that is biggest part of this problem.

Kicking someone out of the stadium for standing is just ridiculous.  I'm happy to be courteous to someone who has a physical ailment and can't stand, but that isn't the majority of fans who attend the games.

It's kind of a knee jerk reaction. Like Jamos, I'm pretty sure I was aware of and courteous to the older crowd around me. It doesn't seem so prevailant these days.

Luckily I don't have to worry about it.  I typically go to the games with my brother, and his tickets are on the top row of the lower bowl.  There's no one behind us to worry about blocking.  I typically only sit during halftime and TV timeouts (if my feet begin hurting from standing on the concrete).  I enjoy the game more that way.
