So should Urban Meyer if OSU doesn't! Clemson had an unprecedented number of likely first round draft picks come back for their senior season. They should have the best defense in the country, and their QB isn't a slouch. Another year under his belt, and they will be tough to beat. Title: Re: ** NATIONAL SIGNING DAY #2 NEWS ..." Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on February 08, 2018, 07:15:19 PM Cecil Hurt's article today wasn't bad regarding the recruiting "down year."
https://www.tidesports.com/cecil-hurt-signing-day-reveal-crack-alabama-dynasty/ Quote So what does it mean? That’s a different question. Is it truly the end of a cycle, one that’s going to be reflected on the field in a couple of years? Or is a one-year correction, a blip between what was a great 2017 class (you did watch the national championship game, right?) and another great one to come in 2019? There were structural reasons why Alabama’s No. 1 streak ended that were apparent as far back as last summer. The numbers were going to be smaller, for one thing. It was very unlikely, given the talent on hand, that Alabama was going to land a five-star quarterback or running back and get the rankings bump that comes with it. The usual geographic area where Alabama thrives wasn’t particularly prospect-rich — not only did the Crimson Tide sign as many prospects from South Carolina as it did from Alabama, but it signed more from Indiana (1) than Georgia (0), more from Utah (1) than Mississippi. The coaching staff turnover that comes most years cost Alabama a five-star or two, although Saban deflected a question about that by praising the new coaches that he has hired and the relationships they will develop. Still, he knew that the timing wasn’t necessarily perfect. Title: Re: ** NATIONAL SIGNING DAY #2 NEWS ..." Post by: Chechem on February 08, 2018, 09:28:34 PM Saban has gone to a group of younger coaches who should be kick-ass recruiters next year. He could have gotten the older, established guys like LSU did (and failed), but he went with youth. I'm betting it pays dividends, as recruits identify with the younger coaches.
ALSO, keep in mind that elite players stay for at least 3 years. We only need to stock the cupboard with 5-star types 1-2 of every 3 years to stay on top! This year we got 2 legit ones, so we didn't fall off any. Last year we got at least 5. All of that negative recruiting from UGA, where they showed recruits our big board (indicating that the recruits were low on Alabama's priority), won't work next year. And thanks to their success this year, UGA will have a full cupboard of players, and recruits will look elsewhere. :popcorn2: Title: Re: ** NATIONAL SIGNING DAY #2 NEWS ..." Post by: ricky023 on February 09, 2018, 04:35:00 PM I am not as worried about recruits as I use to in the past. CNS knows what a cupboard is and he has the blueprint to keep the corners strong and build up the middle. He is the best and when our new coaches mess the different areas we will be getting 5's and 4's from we will always be strong. JMPO. RTR!
