Title: Big 12 Commissioner: Missouri’s culture belongs in the Big 12, not the SEC

I thought it was all settled. Not!

“Every conference has a culture, as I’ve learned through the years,” Neinas said as two days of meetings with conference athletic directors concluded on Wednesday. “One thing I can say with certainty is Missouri’s culture belongs in the Big 12, not the SEC.”

After more than a century in the Big 12, Big Eight and its predecessors, Missouri is considering taking its athletic business to the Southeastern Conference.

“We’re working hard to create conference stability,” Neinas said.

The conference has created a four-member committee — the presidents of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa State — to work on initiatives to strengthen the Big 12.

Neinas said in a conference call later Wednesday that the grant of rights should help persuade Missouri that the Big 12 is stable.

“Once they see what the Big 12 is doing, they’ll agree Missouri should be a member of the Big 12,” Neinas said.

Neinas spoke confidently, but he offered the same sentiment last week about Texas A&M, which accepted a Southeastern Conference invitation on Tuesday.

Neinas, 79, compared the SEC to a “pretty girl and walks down the aisle” but that the Big 12 is the “one that’s tried and true and you know is going to be there.”

I think the Big 12 is more unstable than a stack of Jenga blocks. Just a couple of more cogs pulled out and the conference could fall slam to pieces. I'm still not sure how I feel about Missouri.. could be an interesting addition.

Frank Broyles was the AD at Arkansas when they left the old South West Conference for the SEC. Broyles said at the time they were leaving 75 years of friendships behind but this is a financial decision. I don't think the hogs have ever regreted their move to the SEC.

Yes, and his comments seem like one final act of desperation.  Maybe Missouri to the SEC is getting pretty serious.

This is so true!

Thank you so much ricky023 for the warm welcome. I said it last night when SUPERCOACH and 2Stater welcomed me, it is so much more fun and enjoyable to participate. And let me add this; Crimson Red Sports is the most classy forum on the web. The members are respectful and encouraging. This is a forum Coach Bryant would be proud to see how people conduct themselves in a first class manner.

Seriously, how many name changes can they go through?

You have a point there.

As for fitting in, I don't see how MO fit in with all those Texas/Oklahoma schools.  That was half the conference right there.  The best fit for MO fans might be the Big 10, but that conference isn't looking to expand, and didn't want Missouri.

Hmmm... I'm sure I can think of a few more names for them.  :D

This gives me an idea for a new thread.

"The "one that's tried and true"? Is this the same conference that nearly imploded last year, or is he speaking of Conference USA? :-\
