Title: "What does Alabama coach Nick Saban think of his team's punting game?" Post by: Chechem on September 30, 2011, 05:40:37 AM Quote TUSCALOOSA - Alabama coach Nick Saban seems pleased with his punting unit but not his punter. Through four games, sophomore Cody Mandell has punted 16 times for an average of 38.1 yards. The net punting average is 35.9. Nine of his punts have resulted in fair catches. He has put two punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line and does not have a touchback. "Punting unit has done a good job, but we've got to get more consistent on punts," Saban said in his Wednesday news conference. "I don't know what return average is (7.0), but it's not very much." Saban said on his radio show Thursday night that the goal is 42 yards per punt and a net punting average of 38 yards. "The hang time needs to be more consistent, the ball placement needs to be more consistent, and our average per punt is not what it needs to be," Saban said Wednesday. "We need to continue to work on those things. "I think the people we have are capable, but we just have a hard time being consistent in games...." http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/09/what_does_alabama_coach_nick_s.html |
