While SuperCoach sorts through the copyright laws, we're left with brief summaries and hoping the "fair-use doctrine" applies to CRS.  Meanwhile, here is today's news via links.  Hopefully links won't irritate some distant, grumpy lawyer.

1.  For Alabama to win, Marquis Maze needs to be Javier Arenas in punt-returns.

2.  Slive is rethinking the SEC TV contracts established in 2008.  I think he's jealous of the Texas deal, but says it's due to the realignment.

3.  Izzy Gould is in Gainesville for the game.  He is nervously thinking over each team's strengths and what the star players are saying.

4.  The weekly "football by numbers" story centered on how many times LSU hasn't started out like a winner and how many times South Carolina has not beaten the Boogs.  Fun read.

5.  There are lots of videos of players for your entertainment.  I liked the Jerrell Harris one.  He and Nico play key roles this week.

That should get you started.
BTW, do you know what lawyers do when they die?   They lie still.

Are we not supposed to post quotes anymore? I thought we could as long as we keep it 25% of the article or less.

P, I got the impression it was ok. I think SC is going to do some research and let it ride unless he finds out something to the contrary.

I just looked back at SC's rules and they have not been edited. They still say post a short quote and provide a link. Of course it says avoid all copyright laws.  :dunno:

Forums have been posting links since Methuselah was a child. I think if anything became litigious as a result, it would have stopped along the way.

These writers probably don't have a problem with their stories being
posted on forums. Just gives them another venue to increase their
readership.

I agree. It just gives them more exposure.

I think short quotes with a link are OK, but I need to look into it some more.  The potential problem could be when you post too much of the article.  The hard part is knowing where to draw that line.  If you post the whole article it is clearly a violation.  If you post only the first one or two sentences, it is clearly not a problem.  25% is probably fine too, whereas 75% is probably not.  From what I've seen there is no hard rule about what percentage can be quoted.  This is the part I have to look into.  But even if it were a legal violation, most people would still be happy for you to post a small quote and provide a link since it will help generate traffic to their site.  So for now let's just play it safe and keep the quotes to say around 25%.  Obviously there is no need to count letters or anything like that, just eyeball it and try to make sure it is not too much.

Thanks guys.
