Title: Crimson Red Sports College Football Poll
Post by: SUPERCOACH on October 03, 2011, 02:16:50 AM
I have the web pages in place for us to conduct our own weekly college football poll.  You must have 35 E-Creds to participate.

Right now we are doing the Top 15 teams, but to be honest I really struggled to find 15 teams worthy of a vote.  We might consider tweaking this if we need to.

Try to be serious with your picks.  Don't automatically put Alabama at #1 unless you really think they deserve to be there.  Don't automatically leave Auburn or other rivals off unless you think they deserve to be left off.  If everyone takes this seriously, I think our poll will make a whole lot more sense than the AP or coaches poll.

You have until Wednesday at midnight central time to enter your ballot.  Going forward the deadline will probably be midnight on Sunday.

Go here to enter your ballot:  http://www.crimsonredsports.com/index.php?page=pollenterballot;poll=0;week=6

If you have any problems or suggestions, please post them in here.

Thanks.

SC, this is great.  Here is a site for the current rankings by AP and USA Today.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings

I'm going to have to spend some time thinking this over.

Nice job SC. This will be a lot of fun.

The top 10 is easy. I am having trouble with 11-15. I have to think about this a little bit. It is more difficult than I thought it would be.

I found myself starting to ask the question "Should I vote based on who I think is the best team, who has the best body of work up until this point, or who I think will be there at the end of the year?"   Does the AP give its voters criteria to make the poll a little less open to interpretation?

Luckily Bama ranks high on the list if I think in any of the 3 ways.   ;)

This is all I could find. AP voting guidelines:

It certainly puts things into perspective when you actually have to fill out a ballot sheet doesn't it?  I guess we will just use the AP guidelines since their poll seems to make a lot more sense than the coaches poll (to me any way).

We have 9 ballots in already, with 23 different teams receiving votes.  So we might be able to list the top 25 teams even if we only have to pick 15 on our ballots.

It is there Ricky.  Everyone can go to this page to see their ballots once they have been entered.  You can also edit them up until the deadline.

It should be based on a teams body of work to that point, not future expectations. Except, of course, the pre-season poll.

Good question.  I would say don't worry about whether he may or may not be back and when, but only look at the results of 5 games they played so far, as if the season ended today.  Otherwise we are venturing into predictions about the future.  JMHO.

I wanted to pick Alabama & LSU as #1, but the poll format won't let you do that.

My picks:

1.  Alabama
2.  LSU
3.  Wisconsin
4.  Oklahoma
5.  Clemson
6.  Oklahoma State
7.  Boise  State
8.  Stanford
9.  Texas
10. Michigan
11. Oregon
12. Georgia Tech
13. Arkansas
14. Illinois
15. Kansas State

Put my top 15 in. I have to say I don't envy the job that the pollsters have to do, especially when there is only a razor thin margin between some teams. But for me it was:

1. Bama
2. LSU
3. OU
4. Wisconsin
5. Oklahoma State

I like picking 15. The top 10 was easy. The last 5 is where I had to think a little bit harder.

Sounds good.  I will leave it as is.  I think it will get easier as the season goes along.  Right now several of the teams still haven't really played anyone yet.

I can maybe see voters taking LSU over the Tide and not forgetting LSU's signature win over Oregon. But Oregon's big win this year is Arizona which is a 1-4 team. LSU was also handed a top 25 win at WVU by an inept, turnover prone offense and a paper thin defense.

Even Bob Stoops peed his panties watching Bama storm the Gators in the Swamp. SIAP

The results are official now.  I just turned on a whole bunch of pages that will allow you to slice and dice the poll, for you analytical types.  The Top 5 is displayed in a new block on the left side of the page.  It also has a link to go to the full results, where you can drill down into each ballot and team.  I will post the link here too, but this is the same View Poll page that is linked to in the side block:  http://www.crimsonredsports.com/index.php?page=pollviewresults;poll=0;week=6

I was surprised to see LSU get so many #1 votes.

A lot of love for Wisconsin, I had OK 5th I think, I think UT beats them this weekend.

5th is about right until they prove themselves. Not sure whether the 9pt spread on OU-UT is due to OK being good or lack of respect for UTx?

I forgot to mention that you can click on a team in the poll and it will take you to a page where you can see what position they where in on each ballot.  A lot of you probably figured that out already, but some people may not have noticed that the team name is actually a link.

There is quite a bit of variance with Boise State.  There really isn't a lot of consensus on where they should be in the poll.  I tried to leave them off but started running out of options by the time I got to number 15.

We had 22 members cast a ballot. I expected a few more. Are there only 22 eligible voters or was there some people who did not vote?

Title: Re: Crimson Red Sports College Football Poll
Post by: SUPERCOACH on October 06, 2011, 01:15:20 PM
We have 78 people who are eligible right now, but a few of them where not eligible until after the deadline.  I gave out some e-creds to people I saw that posted recently and where close to 35 earlier today as I was going through and reading the forum, so they can vote next week if they want to.  We have another 129 people who have some E-Creds but not enough to vote.  If I see any of those guys posting I will try to bump them up so they can vote next time.
