Oh, okay.  Sir, I apologize for misjudging your intent in posting a new thread.  I thought we always started with something about Braves ... where they left off last year; but now I completely comprehend your honest intent.  Just imagine my confusion!

They got smoked.  Gave up three HR's including a GRANDSLAM HomeRun…  >:(  Definitely NOT the way I was hoping they would start the season...

With that score, I figured Bryce Harper must have gone all MVP on us but saw he was 0-2 with a walk and 2 strikeouts. WTH?  :dunno:

I am so not buckled for the Braves.  I got off of that bus years ago after about the 50th time they won the division and choked in the post season.

The Braves are starting to come around a bit. They beat the Reds in Cincinnati last night 3-1. They are now 12-11 on the season and a half game behind the Phillies and Mets for first.

True story, Cincinnati's starting catcher, Tucker Barnhart, was the catcher I threw to, for Pensacola, when I had the honor of throwing out the first pitch a few years ago.

My oldest daughter was a nurse at Baptist hospital in P'cola. She bought a raffle ticket with that as a prize and wrote my name on it. It was drawn. I won.

I watched it up until the NFL draft came on. The Reds were making some amazing plays in the field.

Atlanta beat Pittsburgh last night 8-7. The Phillies lost. The Braves are all alone in first place.  :worship:

Yes.  The last two series the Braves played they swept Miami three-game series and last night they completed the four-game sweep of Pittsburgh.

Braves beat the Phillies last night 9-8 with a come-from-behind win.  They outscored the Phillies 7-3 in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings to win with a 2 RBI walk-off single by Brian McCann.

 The Braves are not sitting on a 2-1/2 game lead over the Phillies in the NL East.

The Braves are enjoying a 2-1/2 game lead over the Phillies after winning 2 of 3 games this weekend.  Sunday's game was great.  The Braves stomped a mud-hole in the Phillies then walked it dry winning 15-1.

Over the last 16 games, the Braves have themselves scored 124 points.  That is just since June 1st. They have given up 76 points in those same games...

The boys got spanked yesterday.  Lost 10-2.  They were trailing 10-0 going into the bottom of the 9th but Freeman and Josh Donaldson had back-to-back homers to spoil the shutout...

The Braves won the series yesterday by beating the Mets 7-2.  Freddie Freeman hit a 2-run HR to start the scoring for the Braves in the bottom of the 1st but then not much after that until they scored 3 runs in the 6th.  Tyler Flowers made a really great play at home plate when a runner was coming in to try and score.  He caught the throw from Nick Markakis in right field.  In the process of catching it though he wound up flat on his back.  The runner tried to jump over him but Tyler simply reached up and tagged him out.

They are heading to D.C. for a weekend series against the Nationals now.

The Braves seem to be heading in a good direction BUT, I have seen this so far every year. RTR!

The Braves are playing very sound baseball right now:  Good hitting with power, good base running, very good defense and adequate pitching.  That's a formula for winning a lot of regular season games, IF they can stay healthy.

This is the first year I ever voted for a complete outfield and infield for the Braves. The batting averages for them are outstanding. RTR!

You guys are a bunch of homers.  No way should Donaldson be in ahead of Nelson Arenado.  Swanson isn't a having that great of a season either.  Albies and Freeman deserve a spot, though not necessarily starters.  Freddie is having a great year, but so is Josh Bell.

Acuna should make it, but AFTER Bellinger and Yelich.

I really haven't thought much about it.  How were they picked years ago?  Maybe go by player statistics and polling either sports writers and coaches?  Maybe polling the players from all teams?  Not really sure...

Fan votes are only part of the process. The starting players are selected for the All-Star teams by a vote of other players, baseball writers and by the fans, either voting at games, or via the Internet, whilst the remainder of the team are selected by the two team managers (who are the two managers who represented the leagues in the previous World Series).

Being picked by opposing players might be a grand idea cause they know who the best is out there in the real game. RTR!

Kimbrel closed out the Braves last night.  Glad the Huntsville boy is back in the game, but that has to be painful to watch for the Braves fans.

The Braves showed out yesterday.  They hit 5 HRs in route to a 12-6 win over the Phillies to take a series win and a 6 game lead in the NL east.

The Braves seem to be hot right now. They do have a great hitting line-up and also a fair defensive club. RTR!

The Bravos just swept the Padres in San Diego, winning 4-1 today. They have a 7 game lead over the Nats. WOOOT!!!

Braves won a tough one last night, 4-3. Braves were up 3-1 going to the 9th. The Nats tied it up. The Braves scored one in the bottom half on a walk off single by Josh Donaldson, to win it.

I had heard about Markakis' injury but was unaware of Swanson's.  Hard to keep up with the Braves out here. Hopefully the issue with Swanson will give Charlie Culberson a chance to step up and shine.  He is my current favorite Brave.  That boy can play ANY position...

Just saw on Twitter (yes, I read Twitter) that he will NOT require surgery but will miss 6 to 8 weeks.

Saturday:

Braves beat the Reds 5-4 in bottom of 10th.  Braves got ahead 3-0, then Reds tied it.  The bullpen got some work and helped the Braves win.  The Reds walked a bunch of runners, hit a few batters, and a wild pitch even scored a run for the Braves.

Braves now lead by 7 games.  WOOT!

Acuna had 2-2 run homers last night and now has 32 home runs for the season.  He needs just 4 more stolen bases to reach the 30/30 club.  Jeff Francoeur was talking about him possibly reaching the 40/40 club.

Well the Nats are what I am concerned about. They are close enough to close before the season is over. RTR!

Atlanta's bullpen is the worst in baseball. The Braves blew a 6-2 lead in the ninth and lost in extras. UGH!

False. The AL has had a better record in interleague play for the last 10 years. They also score more runs on average. Most experts think the NL has better pitching and the AL has better hitting and a DH.

Don't get to see too many Braves games up here (only when they play the Nats), but they look solid all around. If anything, what would keep them from going far in the playoffs this year?

The good news is that the Nats lost in a wild one to the Brewers.

The Braves did win.  Acuna got hit in the lower back with the 1st pitch of the game just 1 year and 5 days after he was intentionally hit by a pitch last year during a HR streak.  Snitker complained and was ejected.  Both teams were warned.  This was after the very first pitch.  Later in the game another Braves batter was hit.  Crickets from the Umps... So what is a warning if there is no tooth to back it up?  :dunno:

It's subjective.  Depends a little on the count (who intentionally hits someone on an 0-2 or 1-2 or even 2-2 count?), the pitch (FB vs breaking), and the game situation.

I would think this is getting toward playoff time in games who would intentionally put men on base? RTR!

I was listening to the game on the radio.  The announcers were pretty animated about the Umps not backing up their earlier warning.  One of them did say that there was no obvious intent however...

If you haven't noticed, the Braves announcers are huge homers and do a lot of complaining about the umps.  Reminds me of an upscale version of a Barn broadcast.

Last night's game was fun to watch even with very few points being scored.

Ronald Acuna got his 30th stolen base to put him in the 30/30 club.  He is only the 2nd MLB player to join that club before his 22nd birthday.  That boy is special... Glad he's on our team...  8)

Even with the Braves winning 9-4 over the Bluejays if you look at the 1st four hitters their batting was horrible. Braves need those first batters to get on and score runs to win in the playoffs. RTR!

The Braves won again last night but so did the Nationals.  The Nationals were actually down 6 going into the bottom of the 9th inning. Scored 7 to get the walk-off win and stay just 6-1/2 games behind the Braves with a 4-game series in Atlanta against them.  After that Atlanta Philadelphia for 4 games then to Washington for 3 more.  I hope they can keep playing like they have to maintain their lead in the NL east...

The Braves picked up a half-game on the Nat's yesterday thanks to the Mets beating them.  Now, hopefully we can win at least 3 of the 4 games against the Nationals this weekend starting tonight...

Freddie Freeman left the game last night in the 4th inning after aggravating a bone spur in his left elbow.  After the game he said it wasn't a big deal and he hopes to play again today or tomorrow.  We definitely need him...

Yeah, the Braves won but it was a costly win IMO.  Charlie Culberson was pinch-hitting and on the first pitch tried to bunt.  The pitch was high and fast (90+) and hit him just below his right eye.  He was on the ground for quite some time with blood streaming from his nose.  They managed to get him up and on a cart to take him away.

Then, to make matters worse, the ump called a strike on him even though the ball hit him in the face (should have been awarded 1st base).

Braves won game 3 tonight.  They trailed almost the entire game 1-0 but in the top of the 9th they scored 3 to go up 3-1 and that is how it ended.  With 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th the bats finally started to working for the Braves. Soroka pitched 7 innings - gave up two hits, and the run came after a double and two sacrifices in the second inning. He retired 17 straight batters after the double.

The bullpen played with fire in the bottom of the eighth but got out of it. Melancon gave up a double in the bottom of the 9th.

I am guessing the Braves got beat from the descriptions here. It is an average October for them. They always choke. RTR!

Atlanta choked big.  It was ugly.  Cardinals scored 10 runs in the first inning and coasted to a 13-1 win.

Weird things happen in sports.  They could replay that game 1000 times, and the Cardinals would likely not score 10 runs in the first inning again.  Folty actually wasn't getting hit HARD to start off the inning, and it was really a lot of bad luck.  Swanson not being able to get a handle on Goldy's grounder to throw out the runner at 3rd.  Ozuna getting a weak flair to the opposite field off a ball down and away that would normally not be hit, etc.

Things just spiraled out of control.  If anyone choked, maybe it was Fried.  After the 10 run first, there was just no energy left.  It didn't help that the guy the Cardinals had on the mound had the 3rd lowest post-AS game ERA in the history of baseball.
