If 6 teams were in the CFP this year then there is NO WAY that Bama would be left out IMO.  I honestly don't have a problem with 4 teams though...

Oh, there's definitely a way.  We aren't 11-1 yet.

Well, yeah.  I didn't make it clear that if Bama wins this week and in the IB that they wouldn't be able to keep us out of a 6 team field...

Can we just have a 6 team trial this year?

Expanding to six team playoff would mean four teams have another game added to an already long season.  I would not go for that unless there is some way of mitigating against the chances of debilitating injuries.  One way might be to increase roster size by 5 or so players.  That would add some depth.  But I'd rather see the regular season shortened by one game. (I know that will never happen.  Too much lost $$$.)

Also, wouldn't a longer season run into final exam time for many schools?

This is all true but it would give some teams like Baseball and Basketball a bigger chance to win it all. Plus more money for the schools. RTR!

I don't care about giving more teams an opportunity.  I only care about Bama's chances.  In years Alabama is good, they will make the top 4.  In other years, Bama probably lacks the team to win it all.

This isn't basketball or baseball.  Football places players at greater risk of harm.

Plus, a 6-team playoff gives the top two teams a huge advantage, not having to play an extra game, and skews the odds further in their favor.  It makes the ultimate outcome more likely, not less.

If Bama looks good, really good, with M Jones at QB against Auburn, they have a good chance to make the playoffs.  If Bama can't dominate Auburn, they probably don't belong.

How would expanding the College Football Playoffs to six teams give baseball and basketball teams a bigger chance to win it all?  Baseball and Basketball teams don't play in the CFP.

All divisions except DI have 16 team playoffs. They make it work with final exams. They are also done before Christmas. They do play 11 game regular seasons.

I like an 8 team playoff better than 6. It is too big of an advantage for the two teams that receive a bye.

A 6 or 8 team playoff is for PAC12, Big12, Notre Dame, and the UCFs of the world.

I agree with this. I know the other divisions have more playoff games, but those players, for the most part, aren't as big, fast or physical as the D1 teams. They aren't nearly as prone to injury. Attrition is a booger-bear in D1, esprcially in the SEC. Just look at Bama's team this year.

On a side note; Tim Brando is an LSU homer and an idiot. Just sayin'.....

I lived in NOLA when he did the original.  The Saints were a different team after that.  They beat San Francisco a few weeks later.

No way do I want an 8 team playoff. Just aren’t 8 really good teams most every year. Plus, adding another game is tough on the players.

Most years there are 2 or 3 deserving teams that have a chance to win it all.  Only a few years are there 4 such teams -- the years Bama and tOSU were #4.

They created the playoffs because of past BCS seasons when there were 3 possible teams.

Examples of teams making a 4 team playoff that never had a chance:  Michigan State, Notre Dame, Washington, FSU (and probably 2016 Ohio State and 2015 Oklahoma).

What 4 extra teams would they have added those years?

2017 would have included:  #5 Ohio St (11-2), #6 Wisconsin (12-1), #7 Auburn (10-3), #8 USC (11-2)

2016: #5 Penn St 11-2, #6 Michigan 10-2, #7 Oklahoma 10-2, #8 Wisconsin 10-3

2015: #5 Stanford 11-2, #6 Iowa 12-1, #7 Ohio St 11-1, #8 Notre Dame 10-2

10-3 Wisconsin & 10-3 Auburn.  :yuck:

Well it was a rhetorical question.

And I have a feeling they would have squeezed UCF in there if they were picking the top 8 for the playoffs.
