Title: Other New Years Bowls
Post by: Catch Prothro on January 01, 2020, 03:47:25 PM
Well I ended my Hulu subscription yesterday. The Bama game was on Network TV, and I figured I could watch the Championship game at a sports bar or friends house.

But then Sling offered me a free trial, through Jan 12 (trying to get me on the hook for the Championship game of course),  So I have ESPN for 12 more days.

Coming up today are the Rose Bowl, Oregon v. Wisconsin and tonight the Sugar Bowl, Georgia v Baylor.

So far this is a pretty good bowl game.  Wisconsin leads 10-7 after one quarter.  Oregon's defense has done a pretty good job of stopping Wisconsin's offense (Wisc. TD was a kick return for a TD, FG was after a Wisc. Int in FG range.)

Wisconsin gonna get its running going as the game drags on.

Prime Video (Amazon) offering 30 day free viewing. I wanted to watch Jack Ryan and it was excellent. Wife really enjoyed it, too. I am paying way too much for Direct TV and need to see what else is out there. Must have ESPN, WAPA (Puerto Rico tv station), local stations, and some others.

Georgia/Baylor is a fascinating match-up. SEC defense against Big 12 offense. Can Jake Fromm step up?

Oregon intercepted. A few plays later, they scored. 14-10 Oregon.

I like Prime. Got it for the shipping, then started watching the TV.  Favorite shows include the Expanse, the Man in the High Castle, Sneaky Pete.  Jack Ryan is good too, Jean Claude Van Johnson is funny, and Goliath with Billy Bob Thornton.

I cut the cord a year ago and have had Hulu, which is decent.  I just cancelled because football season is over and they raised the price in January.  YoutubeTV is supposedly the way to go, with unlimited video dvr, but I'll wait until August. Until then it's Prime and TV antenna.

I wouldn't recommend Sling, unless you really just want ESPN.  It's the cheapest way to get ESPN, ESPN2, etc. with their "Orange" package, but once you start adding features it gets more expensive.

My question is Georgia's motivation.   Several players aren't playing.

I’ve got to have WAPA the Puerto Rican channel so my wife can keep up with all the shenanigans going on there. Direct TV is the only service with that.

I guess Georgia showed up.  (They lost to TX in the Sugar Bowl last year).

And Georgia held on to win 26-14.
Quite a win for Kirby.  There were 13 players out for the game, mostly those "preparing for the NFL" or not disclosing why.  Good job of coaching without them.  Maybe Matt Luke helped.  He's on Kirby's staff now.

I saw that. It surprised me that he was already on staff.
