Title: "Garcia benched as Spurrier tabs Shaw as QB starter"
Post by: Chechem on October 04, 2011, 06:29:42 AM

Spurrier was the last person in South Carolina to realize Garcia wasn't improving.  He finally made the switch in QBs.

Quote
Said Spurrier of Conner Shaw, “This is his game, it’s his opportunity to go play and we think he’s ready.”
Then he added, “We’re going to find out Saturday."

I'm with Spurrier; if Conner Shaw can't look good against Kentucky, might as well play Garcia.  At least he's entertaining, and anybody in the stands may catch a pass.

CSS should read this forum more often.

Lattimore no doubt is their offense. I wonder why they don't have some version of a wildcat formation for him, there's no doubt he can pass the ball as good as Garcia and is a much better runner.  ;)

That's not the "fun n gun" but I don't think CSS has had fun since he left UF.

I wondered when Spurrier was going to pull the plug on Garcia.  Now that SC has lost, maybe Spurrier is thinking more long-term.  Or maybe Kentucky is a good game to get CS some game experience.

CSS waited a week too late to change QB's. No way USCe should have lost to the barn. Garcia played a lousy game but CSS deserves the credit for the loss.

^^^THIS^^^

They should have given the ball to Lattimore.  He would have run all over that swiss cheese D they play.  He only got 17 touches the whole game, and no passes.  He should have gotten at least 30 runs and 4 or 5 screen passes.  USC was leading that game 13-9 heading into the 4th Qtr.  Garcia stunk up the place for sure, but USC has more than enough talent to beat the snot out of Auburn.  This one is on CSS IMHO.

Heck even Cheeznip thought Garcia should be benched, and he was helping the barn win.

I will also add that anybody that can only score 13 points against Auburn deserves to lose.  Good grief, the fighting Schnellenbergers scored 14 points against them and got their 1st touchdown of the entire season.  All of the other teams Auburn played scored at least 34 points against them.

Hmmm... isn't it about time for that meltdown thread?  This should be another good one this week.

What happens when Conner Shaw comes out and lays an egg the next few weeks?  People re-question Spurrier?

Perhaps he should use a line from Coach Bryant when questioned about his motive for decision making, "I'm just trying to win the ballgame."

The guy has been winning a few ballgames for a while and has the advantage of seeing both QBs play daily.  Maybe he's a tad more informed than the public?

Conner Shaw laid an egg the first game of the season, which is how Spurrier went to to Garcia in the first place.

I have no idea who the better QB is, but I'm quite certain that Lattimore is better than both of them combined and Auburn couldn't stop a pee wee team.  It just comes down to CSS wanting to throw the ball all over the place instead of using the weapons that he has.  Fun n Gun is no fun if you lose because of it.

The USC D held Auburn to the fewest points this year (so far), but they lost the time of possession battle by 11 minutes.  I have never seen a coach that was so dead set against running the ball.  Lattimore averaged about 4 yards per carry, which is more than enough to win the game against a lot of defenses, especially a pee wee team.  I have no idea why any good RB would play for CSS when he can go just about anywhere else and have a much better chance to showcase his talents.

I didn't watch the game, so I may be totally off base on the offensive play calling.  I am basing these comments on historical tendencies and the box score for this game, which admittedly can be misleading sometimes.  JMHO
