The Athletic’s Bob McGinn, a longtime reporter covering the Green Bay Packers, on Friday published his annual evaluation of quarterback prospects through the eyes of NFL scouts.

On Tagovailoa, McGinn reported Tagovailoa had the lowest Wonderlic score (13) of any quarterback tested in this year’s class.

He also relayed concerns from a scout about how Tagovailoa’s performance in Alabama’s RPO-based offense would translate to the pros.

“We interviewed him,” one scout told The Athletic. “He’s smart enough, but he’s an RPO guy. (Steve) Sarkisian (Alabama’s new coordinator in 2019) tried to do pro stuff and he (Tagovailoa) couldn’t handle it mentally because all he’d ever done was RPO stuff. So they went back to RPO.”

Said another scout to the outlet: “He plays a lot of pitch-and-catch in that offense. He’s really accurate hitting those slants. A lot of the quick game stuff he’s excellent. But when there’s chaos in the pocket there’s a dropoff in his effectiveness. Is there ever a tight-window throw on his highlights?”

One scout also told McGinn, "Despite the fact that his stats are phenomenal, he was in the candy store of life. I think his best days are behind him.”

On Thursday, an AFC executive noted similar concerns to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

“He does some stuff where he works through his reads,” the evaluator told Pelissero. “But it’s so much ride No. 22 (Najee Harris) into the line, pop it on the slant, pop it on the bubble. These cats are really good route-runners, and wide open.”

Well we'll soon know what happens with Tua and the draft.  Wherever he goes, he will have a lot to learn as will all the drafted QBs.

OK, it's time for these brain surgeons to get off Tua's backside. Like these geniuses could ace a Wonderlic test?

Just days before the NFL Draft, former Alabama Football quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is getting some chuckles aimed in his direction after he scored a 19 on the NFL Wonderlic test (top score is a 50, average score a 20).
The Wonderlic test is used at the NFL scouting combine to measure general cognitive ability in three areas: math, vocabulary, and reasoning. The test has 50 multiple choice questions that have to be answered in 12 minutes.

You know, easy questions like these:

Four friends go to a local restaurant for dinner. After finishing their meal, they decide to split the check total evenly among the four of them. Friend N had a bill of $50, friend X had a bill of $35, friend Y had a bill of $20 and friend Z had a bill of $15. How much more money does friend Z have to spend on dinner when the friends split the check evenly than if they paid for their bills individually?

A. $35

B. $30

C. $25

D. $20

E. $15

Here's the thing: The Wonderlic test has no bearing on how successful a player will be in the NFL. Dan Marino scored a 15, Jim Kelly a 15, Terry Bradshaw a 16 and Lamar Jackson. The worst ever? Frank Gore scored a 6.

How about another?

An oven can bake 8 pies of thin crust pizza per hour, or 2 pies of deep dish pizza pies
per hour. How many hours will it take to prepare an order of 16 thin crust pies and 4

Tua Tagovailoa has some of the best football smarts that I have ever seen- those football smarts will lead him to a successful NFL career. He's not auditioning to work at NASA.

We struggle with three of the easy Wonderlic questions and Tua is about to become an NFL star and a multi-millionaire.

I think Tua goes to Miami at 5, which is what pretty much everyone has thought would happen since December.

I’d love to see Henry Ruggs stay on the board until the Saints pick at 24, but I doubt he’ll still be available. Drew Brees needs a target to throw to other than Michael Thomas. NO signed Emmanuel Sanders, but adding a threat like Ruggs in their offense would make them deadly.

The mock draft I read this morning has Tua, Jedrick Wills, Jeudy, Xavier McKinney, and Ruggs all going in the first round.

Bama needs two more in the 1st round to tie the record.

McKinney and Diggs maybe?

Happy for the all the guys drafted, but I’m going to hate seeing Hurts and Diggs in Eagles and and Cowboys uniforms.

My Saints don’t have any glaring needs and have had a solid draft so far getting an OL from Michigan in round 1, and an OLB from Wisconsin and TE from Dayton in round 3. Both of the third rounders were expected to go much higher, so it feels like they got a couple of steals who have the potential to contribute and add depth this year as the Saints seek one more Super Bowl before Brees retires.

I thought the Saints might have taken a QB to groom during Brees' final year.

I don't know if our DB's have all been taken but I see lsu had more taken than anybody. RTR!

LSU has lost a boatload of really good players.  Let's see how they recover from that next year.
