Quote The college football season is officially on life support. Prominent industry source: “I think by the end of the week the fall sports will be postponed in all conferences.” :'( :'( :'( Title: Re: CFB close to being postponed Post by: McBaman on August 09, 2020, 10:17:15 PM Why do SEC, ACC and BIG 12 have to decide this week? Or for the next two weeks? They are playing all conf schedules. Same for the BIG10 but they seem less committed to playing.
MAC conf lost a lot of games (and $$$) when major confs went to all conf schedules. It made less sense for them to try to play. But SEC, ACC and such can still bring in a lot of TV $$$ that they need. I don't see them walking away from that so quickly. I don't see a spring season working for major colleges. Too many guys will opt out to protect their NFL prospects. Plus timing conflicts with the draft. A lot can happen in a week, like pushing a decision back 2 more weeks or who knows. This is certainly disheartening news though. I have always thought the reason the season was delayed until 9/26 was to see how re-opening schools to on campus classes will turn out.
High schools seem to be moving forward with the intention of playing. Pads go on in many places this week after opening in shorts and helmets. Title: Re: CFB close to being postponed Post by: McBaman on August 10, 2020, 04:47:45 PM Fast moving story today. CNS, Najee and H Leatherwood spoke this afternoon:

Yep. They're not letting this season go down without a fight. Title: Re: CFB close to being postponed Post by: pmull on August 10, 2020, 05:06:03 PM It is not official yet but the Big Ten voted today on to or not to play football. All but Iowa and Nebraska voted to not play. The Big Ten is a bunch of wussies.
I think the SEC needs more facts and less theories before they cancel the season. :dunno: Title: Re: CFB close to being postponed Post by: 2Stater on August 10, 2020, 05:38:36 PM It is not official yet but the Big Ten voted today on to or not to play football. All but Iowa and Nebraska voted to not play. The Big Ten is a bunch of wussies. I think the SEC needs more facts and less theories before they cancel the season. :dunno: Amen! CNS had this to say today: Quote "I want to play, but I want to play for the players' sake, the value they can create for themselves," Saban told ESPN. "I know I'll be criticized no matter what I say, that I don't care about player safety. Look, players are a lot safer with us than they are running around at home. We have around a 2 percent positive ratio on our team since the Fourth of the July. It's a lot higher than that in society. We act like these guys can't get this unless they play football. They can get it anywhere, whether they're in a bar or just hanging out." https://www.si.com/college/alabama/bamacentral/nick-saban-players-are-a-lot-safer-with-us-blackwell Title: Re: CFB close to being postponed Post by: bamaphil on August 10, 2020, 07:18:11 PM I think college football as we know it may be dead. I don’t see the sport recovering from this. Either the major programs will separate from the NCAA and create their own association or a non-collegiate league that pays the players for three or four years before they’re NFL eligible will emerge. The recently purchased XFL could take on this role.
Title: Re: CFB close to being postponed Post by: ricky023 on August 11, 2020, 09:28:16 AM It is a sad time in college sports but then, we have allowed sports to become more important than anything in our lives. RTR!
Title: Re: CFB close to being postponed Post by: McBaman on August 11, 2020, 04:21:54 PM So the BIG10 and PAC10 have "postponed all sports" through the end of the year. Here's an ESPN story.
https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29640603/sources-pac-12-calls-fall-sports-eyes-spring As I read the wording of the story this means no FB this fall but they will keep open the possibility of spring FB. (Yea...good luck with that.) And it means no BB before Jan 1st. The SEC and ACC wusses will probably follow suit. But there is an opportunity for SEC/ACC to make a statement and play. Think what that would say to recruits. This is gonna cause chaos with Bowl games if only ACC & SEC play. What a mess. Title: Re: CFB close to being postponed Post by: ricky023 on August 11, 2020, 04:51:26 PM Hey Mc you don't think they will be any bowl games maybe Conference Champ game and NCG. RTR!
Title: Re: CFB close to being postponed Post by: pmull on August 11, 2020, 06:47:47 PM Nebraska and tOSU are not happy. They say they will explore their options for fall football even without the Big 10.

(WTXL) — The NCAA officially cancels all Division One fall sports championships. Quote NCAA president Mark Emmert released a video Thursday afternoon explaining the decision, saying there aren't enough schools playing to have a legitimate Championship. Hey Emmert, quitters never win. The Big 10 and Pac 12 forfeited their seasons. That was their decision. Boo hoo for them. There are still plenty of teams left to play. His prospects for starting went up significantly when Josh Jackson left the program. Now that's out the window with the Big 10 canceling. Of course everyone up here is more concerned about the Ravens and the team formerly known as the Redskins; usually the answer about Terp football is "Oh, they still have a team?"
