Title: Thoughts on Oklahoma/Texas/SEC rumors?
Post by: lstephen on July 22, 2021, 10:37:18 AM
Any possibility this happens?  For or against?

I don't see it being a good idea.  Still, if I were the SEC Commissioner, I'd work the negotiations with due diligence to see what fell out.

If it happens, and the two division organization is left in tact, it would make sense for Alabama and Auburn to move to the SEC East.  Ideally you'd want to move Missouri to the West, but that would mean splitting out on of the Mississippi schools into the East as well.

Texas must be a glutton for punishment. They already suck in the Big 12 and now they want to come to the SEC? Bwaaahaaahaaa!!!!!!!!!!

I think the 2 schools will lose a lot of playoff chances playing an SEC schedule every year. I guess their biggest thought is the money from the SEC affiliations. I call it good for the SEC but bad for the rest of the country.RTR!

I agree.  And with the shift of Bama, Barn and one of the Mississippi schools moving to the east, the domination of the SEC would also shift to the east.  Primarily because of just one school moving.  Anybody want to guess which school I'm talking about?  8)

We say that, Ricky, but the Big10 actually leads conference revenue sharing to schools.   Their payout was about $10M per school more than the SEC recently.   (And yes, I know TX and OK aren't in the Big10, just saying the SEC doesn't have the money dominance that we all assume at times)

Moreover, TX may be the richest public school in the country.   Their endowment stands at over $30 billion, whereas the University of Alabama is about $1.5 billion.

A few years ago the UTex system purchased $2Bil in physical gold, which was the largest physical gold purchase in history, I believe.

They're a sleeping giant, I assure you.

I'd say Alabama, Georgia and Florida vs TX, Oklahoma and LSU would be pretty nasty competition most years.

It more than likely will happen...can you spell G-R-E-E-D...it is all about the Bucks...CFB is slowly loosing it's identity...I personally am sad to see these things take place.

Well we know for sure if OK and Tex want to come into a conference where they will lose more games it has to be about money. RTR!

There are also reports that the SEC has talked to Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson, and Florida State in attempt to form a 20-team conference.

Well this 4 pod schedule sounds good but I think Mullen might not wish to be beaten so often as playing the schools more than before. RTR!

Good stuff. The landscape of college football isn't going to know what hit it.

I wasn't big on adding more teams but it's a done deal so I have to live with it. The devil is in the details. Will there be 2 divisions of 8 teams each? Will we play 9 or 10 conference games? So much that we don't know. Definitely see Tide and Barn going to the East.

Something no one mentions is that we need to remove some of the deadwood from the conference. Teams like Vandy, Missouri, & South Carolina. They bring nothing.

I figure you left UK off of the "deadwood" list thanks to their records in recent years.  Using that criteria though, why not put Tenrsea ON that list of culls?  :lol2:

Vandy and South Carolina are good for baseball.  I guess you can say baseball doesn't make any money, but we still want to SEC to be strong in as many sports as possible.

Tennessee has potential. I forgot all about UK, but they do bring in dollars for the SEC with basketball. UK is on the fence for exile.

I am not sure how much UK brings in in money? I do know they use to be the best BB program going but we have a few teams catching up with the now, Alabama included. RTR!

South Carolina was in the Final Four a few years ago. They consistently pack an 80,000 seat stadium. They bring as much to the table as both Mississippi schools.

Mizzou just does not seem to fit but they have won the East several times. Solid basketball program.

You can not have a league with 14 winners. The SEC is the best conference in football, baseball and softball. The SEC is strong in basketball, Women's basketball, track, golf and gymnastics.

I do not think any team needs to be culled. Even Vandy has something to offer.

You're right, they sell out every game no matter how bad their team. Good point.

Yep, and Vandy won the MCWS a couple of years ago so there is that...
