Title: A few additional notes from UF game:
Post by: hscoach on October 05, 2011, 09:26:38 PM
I got to thinking about how the D played and negative plays the UF O had.  If I counted correctly, UF ran 40 plays, not counting punts or FG tries, after the first 2 series.  Of those 40 plays 13 had a negative outcome for the Gators.  There were 11 tackles for loss which includes 4 sacks.  Also, there was 1 int which was returned for a TD and 1 fumble recovery which gave Bama field postions for another TD.  This means 32.5% of UF plays had a negative outcome.  This in my opinion is a great credit to the coaching staff and the adjustments they made.

Those stats are quite impressive! Would love to see very similar numbers for lswho's offense! ( and every other opponents for that matter)

Thanks for the analysis!  That seems like an incredibly high number, particularly in light of the fact that Florida has a pretty solid offense.

That is pretty impressive.

Yep, without that 35 yard run by Driskell, they would have had -15 yards rushing as a team, that's how dominant the D was. What a display of a shutdown defense.

One thing I think, that I haven't seen mentioned, is the fact at the beginning of the game when UF's O was rolling, the Bama O kept pace. Nothing flashy like UF, but methodical, dominate-the-man-in-front-of-you offence. When the D made adjustments, Bama wasn’t down two scores and worried about taking chances. So, I think the O should get some extra cred for that.  #+

It appears to me that everyone we play puts in a new offensive scheme or a few new wrinkles that are giving us a little problem on the first series or two. Once CNS and CKS get a look at what they are doing we make our adjustments and we are shutting everyone down for the rest of the game.

Great point.  I noticed that too.

Thanks for more great analysis, coach. Those are very impressive stats, something I hope the D can continue to do in the weeks to come (especially Nov. 5).

Florida's receivers were faster and more talented than we expected, apparently.  Either that or Dre was slower than expected.  Bama switched from a man to a zone after UF's first 2 possessions.

Gary Danielson said in the Arkansas and Florida games after about two possessions that Alabama's defense has adjusted to the speed of the game. CNS said we were too hyped up at the beginning of the Florida game. He went on to say sometimes that helps but most of the time it works against you.

One of DK main problems was he kept glancing back for the ball instead of closing on the rec.  A player must look at the player to make up the ground, you just can't run as fast looking back.
