Title: Majority of SEC presidents favor Missouri, but not yet enough Post by: Coach Hank Crisp on October 06, 2011, 06:22:00 AM Quote http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2011/10/majority_of_sec_presidents_fav.html BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Missouri demonstrated it's ready to publicly dance with the SEC. But will enough SEC presidents agree to the overture? Two sources familiar with the SEC's discussions about Missouri told The Birmingham News Wednesday that as of now it appears that a majority of SEC presidents and chancellors would support Missouri's application. But the sources said that majority falls just short of the nine votes required to add a new member. One source said there's a group of presidents that wants to sit tight, believing the SEC can do better than Missouri and that No. 14 should come from the East. According to both sources, Alabama wants to look East and not risk losing its annual game against Tennessee, while Auburn favors adding Missouri and moving to the Eastern Division. Clearly Texas A&M will be added to the west. "Go ahead, Booger Eaters, and don't let the door hit you on the butt." Yor're right. They just jump on the school's jet and are there in an hour. Let 'em try to fly into Morgantown on one of those cold, foggy nights. Title: Re: Majority of SEC presidents favor Missouri, but not yet enough Post by: Catch Prothro on October 06, 2011, 02:31:09 PM Apparently Bama has little recruiting or TV interest in Missouri, and also doesn't want to let the Barn out of a tough SEC West.

Title: Re: Majority of SEC presidents favor Missouri, but not yet enough Post by: SUPERCOACH on October 06, 2011, 02:45:21 PM Maybe they should move to the east and we stop playing them every year. That would be just fine with me. We should send them off with a proper beat down this year just in case that happens.

The Bama game is what sells their season tickets. Even the boogers like to watch Bama play. Title: Re: Majority of SEC presidents favor Missouri, but not yet enough Post by: Jamos on October 06, 2011, 04:24:18 PM I'm sure that there will be a coup of Presidents that will hold the SEC hostage over who the 14th member will be, whether it's on the East side of the SEC or the West side.. I can see where the schools in the East want the next team to come from that region because the cost to play that school will be cheaper on them. On the other hand the schools in the West side of the conference feel the same way about getting another school from the western region so that it will be cheaper on them.
Now, how will they ever get nine Presidents to agree on another school. There will always be some schools that will have to travel farther than others regardless of where they are located. Do you think they can ever get nine folks to agree on what is best for the conference? Getting nine folks to agree on what is best for the conference rather than what is best for their school is the big question that will have to be answered and I don't think they are anywhere close to that happening. Title: Re: Majority of SEC presidents favor Missouri, but not yet enough Post by: McBaman on October 06, 2011, 08:04:58 PM I just can't see Mizzou coming into SEC. The 'pro' arguments aren't that compelling. I hope SEC just sits tight for a while. If Presidents are gridlocked, that's good.
Title: Re: Majority of SEC presidents favor Missouri, but not yet enough Post by: Tidewest on October 06, 2011, 09:44:24 PM It is hard to get excited about a middle of the pack school that was rejected by the Big-10. As far as there TV markets, they are more excited by baseball and the NFL. Florida St or Clemson looks to be a better fit.

The 'pro' arguments aren't that compelling. I hope SEC just sits tight for a while. If Presidents are gridlocked, that's good. I think Bama's president sees it the same way. The biggest argument against Mizzou in the West is that it dilutes the SEC West too much. By adding two teams to the SEC, most of the rivalries can still exist. However, I think one should be added to the East, and one team added to the West. If two teams are added to the West, and the Barn moves east, that results in a complete change in the makeup of the West, with the East retaining more of the traditional SEC teams, and the West being Bama, LSU, the Mississippi teams, and three more recent additions (Arky TAM MO). Much as I don't like the Barn, I don't want them to run to the East. They should face Bama and LSU every year. |
